Early trucks had small round taillights with a cats eye lens, the wires will be in a different spot than the new larger taillights used since around 1970ish. On my 2.5 ton dump truck the mounting holes are drilled lower and the composite lights work then, maybe you could do the same on the 5...
I added some pics and prices to my above post.
I'm looking for the shelter tie down stuff for an m1028 CUCV if anyone happens to have a set. I have just the front bar but none of the other hardware or brackets.
Also looking for an m36 long wheelbase side rack.
I have a Hesse Hornet air...
Lately I've scrapped out the two parts trucks I'm using for the NV4500 swap and started getting the parts ready to go.
I test fitted the bellhousing on an engine to see how much grinding needed to be done for the starter but it seems to work just fine as is, unless I'm missing something...
Thanks. There is still plenty of work to get done on it but we're making progress slowly.
Yesterday I started trying to remove the pins that hold the gin poles to the truck. They bolt on from the outside, there's no way to get to them from underneath the truck and nothing to grab with a...
Welcome to the site.
My advice is don’t even think any further about towing it home with an FJ Cruiser. That trailer is massive and not safe nor legal behind an FJ.
You’re going to need a new plan.
I've had similar problems with a faulty high/low switch. My headlights would work once every 50 or so clicks until I changed it out. So that might be a good place to start if you know both headlights are good.
Welcome from Colchester.
I'm not exactly sure what the original color would be for a 1980 model. For Army trucks early m813s would have been 24087 OD green with the large white stars. In the mid 1970s they started painting trucks MERDC 4 color camo so perhaps a 1980 would have been the base...
At some point I'll have to bolt some wood blocks to the face of the rear winch. They're shown in the TM, I guess they're to protect the winch from something sliding into it when the headboard isn't on. A friend's 1969 m756a2 still has them. The 1970 truck probably should have them too...
I haven't updated this thread for a while since nothing too exciting has been happening with the pipeline truck. Some pics of it lifting in the yard this year:
Also here's some closer up pictures of the trunnion used to join the gin poles together. There are at least a couple trucks out there...
It would probably tow great the whole way but putting it on a trailer is a good idea.
Although the m448 might be in better shape than what u-haul will send you down the road with.:-P
The new "Powerking" tires are on and look pretty good. Probably a vast improvement over the old ones which were getting a little cracked (not to mention the one that was shredded).:)
Parts truck number 2 got brought home this evening, an 87 k10. It's a real beauty.[thumbzup]
Actually it's a bit rough:lol:, but it has more parts I'll need for the NV4500 swap like the hydraulic clutch pedal and steering column.
I'll be vending at the show Friday and Saturday.
Some of the stuff I can bring:
m49 gun ring $2000
.50 cal cradle $300
heavy tow bar with 3 sets of feet $600
medium tow bars and chain clamps (no feet) $250 bar with 5 pins, $75 for chain clamps (unused)
long wheelbase 5 ton cargo covers...
I haven't done much work on my CUCVs lately but I did pick up an extremely rusty newer Chevy...
...with an NV4500 overdrive transmission.:-)
I guess I'm going to look at installing that in my m1028 at some point. Running down the highway without the engine screaming would be nice.
I've got a brake controller wired in on my CUCV and a class IV hitch. You definitely notice the lack of power with the 6.2 but it's not terrible on flat ground. I wouldn't tow much more than a pickup truck on a flat bed, but that's just me. The official military rating is only 3000lbs on the...
