It could also be as simple as a valve core, and you could fix it yourself. It would still be a good idea to break all the lugnuts free, and hand tighten them with the wrench incase you need to change one out on the road.
They sound the same to me whether an lds or ldt, take a look at the turbo itself, maybe it is not a c or d at all. Though unlikely, the owner could have done some fab work i guess.
Just keep looking for a cheap m416, there are deals out there. I've got about 550 into mine, which is less an m101a2 would cost me from GL with a long distance recovery. I guess the m416a1 with surge brakes would be even safer, but is more expensive, and probably unnessecary.
My 416 is on...
I understand everyone is an expert, but has anyone ever actually witnessed with their own eyes a complete hitch failure? Ryan77, you said you've seen it, what was the situation?
It comes down to which you prefer. An m1009 can handle a 416 or an m101a2 in most situations. I would not tow a fully loaded m101 off road through rough terrain, but I have towed a m101a3 with 1000 lbs in it on pavement, and it handled it ok. Either will work just fine for utility use.2cents
With the differences in the air intake and exhaust on the deuce as compared to the multi 5 tons, the c or d turbo is a direct bolt on for an lds in a deuce, instead of needing some fab work to fit in the 5 ton turbos.
At least try towing an m101a2 before you sell your m1009, and see for yourself.
The tm also says the max speed is 55mph for all cucvs, but a civi blazer thats exactly the same as an m1009 is rated for highway speeds.:deadhorse:
Road trippin' to PA this morning to Mechanicsburg for some stuff, then picking up an m107a2 water buffalo on the trip back up. Round trip is around 900 miles, traveling with "Black Ops". Pics to follow within the next 12 to 36 hours.:driver:
