If anyone is bored and want to experience a Royal PITA then you should try gutting the interior of a M1078. You can't just take 1 thing off because you need to take 3 things off to get the 1 thing off you wanted. So basically I just pulled everything out. My concern is getting it all back in...
Toby, sorry you had to go through the expense and hassle of dealing with this. Unfortunately many of us have had similar issues with Eastern. As a matter of fact here's a thread that eventually got locked but at least not deleted...
I'm sure there are detailed records of transfer. Like I said, bikeman just went back to the last unit the truck was assigned to and no further. I'm sure he could research it all the way back to Stewart and Stevenson if he wanted to go to that much work. The government (including the military)...
Started pulling the interior out of the cab to continue the insulation. Found a dispatch folder under the driver's storage box with documentation that the truck was in Korea in 2002. Plenty of sand/dirt under the mat and further evidence that one of the side windows had been broken at one point.
I'm actually looking in to finding a used Hi/Low bumper pull trailer and pulling the axle off to just mount the whole thing on the 1082. I'd paint it to match as well and wouldn't have to worry about figuring out all the plumbing. I don't think the Mrs will go along if there isn't a semi-real...
The Michelins hopped all the time even on long trips. They may have had a permanent flat spot in them but every little bump seemed to be exaggerated. I'm going to try and not let these set very often :)
I only went for a couple of miles this morning but the GoodYears are much smoother. The Michelins had a tendency to "hop" a bit and that's gone with the new tires.
Just come down and join in the fun. I didn't mention earlier but this is a family type thing not just a bunch of MV guys hanging out. My wife is coming and I've had some interest in at least one other couple so bring the significant other, the kids, the grandparents, the neighbors, etc. Those...
Woke up at 0100 this morning and couldn't get back to sleep so spent several hours going through more locations at Big Bend. There are basically 3 types of roads in the Park: 1) Paved Roads - about 100 miles worth so no real issues with the type of vehicle you might bring 2) Improved Dirt Roads...
Paint job looks great Mike! I must have missed it along the way but don't think I've seen those rear fenders on the tractor.
Now that it's all done time to start on a M1078 :)
Well I can't say yet. By the time we got the tires changed it was around 1:30 and we decided to split for lunch and haven't had the chance to take it for a spin yet. I'll do that this weekend and report back.
Had a friend come over today and we got the new shoes put on the truck. Now it matches the trailer!
Only real issues we had were me knocking one of the Schrader valves off the CTIS while moving the tire and deflating it and one of the other CTIS setups was so rusted on the new wheel that there...
Good eye on the height Dan! Truck deck height at tailgate is 61 3/4" and trailer deck height at tailgate is 58 3/4". Not much but 3" is 3".
Forgot to mention that the Emergency Air line looks like an easy fix. Rory said it looked like they drove off with the line still connected and just...
