Where are you getting your panels from? If it is Fla. Tactical are they fitting correctly? I had so many issues with the dash side panel not having the correct radius for the foot exit area that I finally had to build my own. Never got my money back either!

The problem with chemicals is neutralizing them afterwards. You will never get it all and corrosion will soon follow. I would go with the walnut shells also. What you don't get could be lightly sanded and painted over. You will need ti lightly sand the whole thing anyway to make the paint stick...
Wait a minute here! I thoght the steering box was being done the same time as the starter. You mean you have been driving without power steering or just a semiworking and growling steering. I have one of those. That is NOT a fun job.
