Having an engine with a service life of 10k hours isn't the same thing as MTBF (mean time between failures). Those numbers can be harder to come by. From what I've read around you can see studies done on this kind of stuff. One I read listed the MEP-831 as the least reliable set in the current...
Here is a tip to help you with that. When you can't read something very well you can click on the text and either highlight it by dragging with your left mouse button down or click {CTRL} + A keys at the same time. This will "select" the text and change the text color and background color for...
The film of oil runs off the internal parts in "hours" after it was stirred up. Spinning it over is not really doing you a lot of good.
In the grand scheme of things the equipment will be better served by giving it a GOOD run even if that means you do it quarterly and don't touch it in...
Here is a place to start.
Download the -24 manual for the 805 and go to page 148. That is the sheet describing the connections on the diagnostic port. If the equipment will run but not make voltage you'll want to check the DC exciter field voltage (pin "F"). See what you have there. You can go...

For testing purposes I use a couple of lawnmower batteries. They are in the 250 CCA range. They spin the generators over fine. I'm not suggesting to use these small batteries for a perm install. Any good quality full sized starting battery will work fine in the generator.
I was going to say when my neighbors lights came back on. :D
Where I live the power company will send you a text when the ticket your outage is on is closed out. There will be an hour or two lag sometimes.
Otherwise I glance at my meter to see if the display is on.
+1 on Dav5's advice. Replace it. I've spent far too long messing around with these **** things. Once they develop an intermittent fault the problem is usually in the reed switch. You'll waste a bunch of time and end up replacing it in the end.
Unless you enjoy torturing yourself. If so, carry...
