Don't be surprised if it sticks again after you start the next time. I recommend not running it again until you are ready to load it up. Since yours may be wetstacked you will want to step it up in stages. 2kw or so steps would be ideal. Don't load it if its missing or otherwise showing serious...
I've been curious to see how these alternators were wound and if there is the possibility to convert a 10 wire head to a 12 wire head.
Is there anyone that has a stator out of one of these machines that could be evaluated for modification?
Electrical problems generally don't heal. You should keep an eye on it. Something may have arced and made a "better" connection for now. Unless you find a positive reason for the imbalance don't fully trust it.
I hate to say this out loud on this forum but.. If that is the majority of what you are trying to run on generator power I would recommend that you sell the green monster to a collector and buy a Honda EU2000. Quiet, modern, totally fuel efficient, extremely good power quality, and reliable. Done.
The way to troubleshoot this is to measure the voltage across each set of windings in the alternator. You can do this at the phase selector switch.
Let me know if the TM (schematic) doesn't make sense as to where to take the measurements.
One of the things we would do on engines that hadn't started in a while was to pull the oil pump and about half pack it with light grease. That would get them to suck the oil up quickly. This was a pretty easy job on american engines where the oil pump was driven from the distributor.
Yea...
Is it consuming any appreciable amount of oil?
Since it will pull a decent load I would not tear into it unless the oil consumption is unpalatable.
Try to run it more. That may resolve the issue. My 803 has a little blue smoke a little till it warms up. I can't tell that its using any oil...
You'll see more smoke (than usual) in the exhaust when loaded and in severe cases the exhaust will be clogged to the severity to reduce the amount of power the generator can produce.
It will be harder to tell if you have a problem at light loads. Sometimes you can see a gooey mess around the...
The issue with that one is it was a locally available item. For sure a good idea and maybe even at regular prices a more viable one if someone doesn't want to DIY a water heater or dryer element setup.
I took a look and many are in the 5kw load range. Most had 2 settings. No real information...
