Wish I still lived in ID Bill (for more reasons than one). I'd love to drop by and see your Goat. Unfortunately when I'm back it's always north of Grangeville so doubt that's going to happen any time soon.
There's a lot of factors but UV damage is definately one of them. The problem with the tires that came on the Goat is that they were flat for a long time so sitting with a lot of weight on the side walls. The new tires were probably from a more active agency that kept them aired up.
Got #2 tire on this morning. The fronts were the best tires I had to start and 1 wouldn't hold air and this one had serious side wall cracks. The others are 10x worse. Of course I put the best new tires on the front but even the others are worlds better than whats on it now.
11B, 19E, and 19K. After active duty I decided you walked too much in the Infantry and switched to Armor so I could ride everywhere. I was in the 5th and 9th IDs while active. I guess I was so important that after I left they deactivated the Divisions.
Sure enough that's missing on both sides. Not a problem. I'll just make both sides match with the angle and leave it like that. I'm not planning on entering any competitions where someone will care if I have an original step or a modified one. Like I said, the large flat piece of angle is...
It's just at the right heighth for your foot to slip into the notch in the tank. Of course that's in tennis shoes. I haven't been able to wear my Army boots (or any other boot) for a while due to the weight of them. Probably too tight to get your toe in with those. Just shows how observant I...
There's 2 of us named Mark working on Goats so you're going to have to start getting specific. I'm sure he realizes who you're talking to but I was scratching my head for a minute trying to figure out what I needed that was welded :)
I never noticed they weren't on all Goats. I just did a Google photo search and couldn't find another one like it. Here's the passenger side. It actually makes a comfortable step.
I doubt it was a USMC modification. More likely something the Forest Service did. One of the corner welds on the...
We're spread out all over the country (ME, TN, AR, TX, and WA). I have a friend in Austin that has one as well so he's a bit closer but they're fairly heavy and fairly long to schlep around.
I got the 1st wheel/tire combo on this morning after painting the wheel yesterday. I'm extremely thankful that these things don't weigh as much as a deuce wheel/tire or I'd never be able to handle them. As it is I'm going to be lucky to get 1 a day finished and installed. I aired them all up...
There appear to be 5 of us actively working on Goats at the moment. For a vehicle that they didn't make that many of and that weren't usually available I'd say that's kind of astounding.
Dirtdobber make sure to update your thread to include any parts you're looking for.
If anyone is looking for the truss kit, I spoke with Mark from Rapco Parts at the Convention and he said he has some. I need to email him for a price as he said he hasn't looked at them in a few years so didn't know how much he had in them.
For those of you who haven't been to a MVPA Convention I really suggest you go. The quality of people you meet there is outstanding. While trying to sell another Goat owner some tires (which he had no way to get home so passed) I mentioned I was looking for the M60 mount that bolts to the top...
