The worst thing about the Deuce I am purchasing is the seating position. I'm 6' 5" and somehow I remember a lot more leg room when I drove these in the Service, many moon ago.
My knees have to bend to an unusual and surprising angle to operate the clutch and the brake.
I spent a few minutes...
Yes. This is a GPW engine in a PE-95. This way the question is seen by the relevant audiences as I doubt that many individuals have both and, consequently, read both forums.
Hi, I've got a PE-95 genset with the GPW engine. The head gasket blew. While I have the head off to complete the repair, I was wondering if you can mill the head a bit to increase the compression.
I would not mind a slight increase in the CR. While I still want to run regular gas, I...

Well, thanks to the support and advice from you all, and also from a week of no power, phone or internet thanks to the storm (forces you to act for yourself) I have found an M35A2 and should close the deal this week. Seems like a solid truck (knock wood). Not a whistler, though. :( Wish me...
Thanks,m great info.
In my old age I tend to drive things that I have to fix myself just like Grandma would. No longer into replacing broken axles and the like. I also like fabricating, but I do my best to avoid slim shadying things (LOL, I hope so, anyway).
The truck I am looking at has had...
Good advice, thanks. I kind of like the '5 minutes idling' before and after requirement. It gives you a chance to finish a cup of coffee like a gentleman.
Line wrenches, single and doule flaring tools, all that sort of thing I have. Same with multimeters that can handle a 24v system. What I don't have (and, obviously, would have to get) are larger capacity bottle jacks and 3/4" and 1" socket sets.
I also don't have a backhoe like some of you...
Thanks for the replies so far. I do know about 'search' and I have been reading through the various threads for some time. That is often not the same as a direct reply; so please keep the feedback coming.
One thing I am wondering about is how 'heavy' a shop one needs for the care and feeding...
OK, so sometimes you think you know, but if you are honest with yourself you realize that you might not have it down pat. So please help enlighten me:
What are the major differences between an M35, M35A1 and M35A2? Are the differences minor, or some to be avoided?
What can you run in a...
When these motors blow head gaskets, it is usually between the paired cylinders because the head gasket is very skinny at that point. The compression readings reported are not consistent with a blown head gasket. One of these engines with a blown head gasket will have readings like 50 psi in...
I agree with OF. That is enough compression for the motor to start and run. The walss are probably dry from gas washdown from many attempts at starting, plus the rings get stuck. Once that motor sttarts and runs and you drive it some, the compression will be quite higher.
I do not think that...
First, confirm the distributor timing since you spun it and it does not run. Let's be sure it is right. Take out the #1 plug and slowly spin the motor with your finger in the hole. When you start to feel compression, that hole is on the compression stroke. Now line up the timing marks. Now...
