    Insurance problem!!!!!!!!!!!

Part of the problem is that there does not seem to be a written explanation of what 'modified' means. If you install an aftermarket oil filter or LED turn signal bulbs, it is 'modified', right? It is a judgement call, and unfortunately the insurance companies make the judgements.

    My New Trailer

Thank you. Today I greased the shackles and they all nicely took grease. Clean grease came out too (the old grease was clean). I found the TM for the trailer, and it looks like the wheel bearings get adjusted just like any other vehicle. Here are a couple more pictures:

    My New Trailer

Thank you. I plan to pull the hubs to grease the wheel bearings. Any special tips, or do they get adjusted like any other wheel bearing?

    My New Trailer

Thanks for the replies and the tips. Asgar, it's funny what you said about the TP. When I picked up the trailer I eyeballed them and clubbed them and they were firm with no apparent sidewall flex. I got home - about 50 miles of highway - and felt them. Cool as a cucumber. Then i checked the...

    My New Trailer

Yes, I will eventually replace them but for now they seem to be doing quite well. I don't load the trailer heavily and I am sure that helps.

    My New Trailer

I do have a spare! :) Even with that, on the first few trips I stopped to feel the tires and wheel bearings to see if they were getting hot. Cool as a cucumber, even at speeds of 75 mph. Unfortunately, I do not have green iron to tow with. :( Trips have been with my OT 4x4, my friend's...

    My New Trailer

Here's a shot of my new trailer. The tires are dated 1964 and I have already made two 600 mile round trips. We used to build some great things in this country.

    New Trailer

Really? Did not realize that. Wow.

    New Trailer

I will for long-distance work but for around town they seem fine. Plus the trailer came with a mounted spare (yes, just as old).

    New Trailer

Here's my new trailer. Given to me by a good friend who decided he no longer needed it. The tires are dated 4/68. :)

Non directional tires on a civilian Jeep

I ended up getting Bridgestone Dueler A/V tires. I got a good price, I like the looks of the tread pattern, and I have been very happy with their performance in snow and on ice. They are even pretty quiet on the highway - I recently did a round trip to Vermont. Thanks for all of the advice...

    Blackout Lights

Here is the light installed. It's my DD, and it is black, so I blacked-out the blackout light I got from Saturn Surplus. It's 12 volts. It works just as it should. :)

    Waste oil Filtration system

So assuming that the used motor oil is run through a filter, and that either the ratio of oil to fuel oil is something like 5% OR that the motor oil is mixed 50:50 with kero, would it work? Reason is that I need to get rid of 30 gallons or so of used motor oil to get rid of and I can easily do...

    Deuce Driving lights

In NY, the appearance of that lens would probably be enough. :(

    Waste oil Filtration system

If used motor oil through a 5 micron filter gets it filtered well enough to not clog up a diesel injector, then why not do the same thing to augment home heating oil?

    Deuce Driving lights

The IR lights are a great idea and can be useful in additional situations, like for night videos of wildlife. I wonder if having them would run afoul of the police in states where you are not permitted to display a red light to the front of a vehicle.

    Blackout Lights

In general, are blackout lights supposed to be mounted on the driver's or passenger's side? (Front and rear.)

    Dukw?

That's it, Mike, thanks. I believe that the two missing people drowned. I don't know the results of the inquiry. There were allegations that the Dukw skipper never declared an emergency. I don't know if that would have mattered given the lack of maneuverability, size and speed of the tug and...

    Dukw?

In Boston there are several that do tourist tour duty. They drive all over the city and then hop into the Charles River to complete the tour. I have always wondered how much of their running gear has been upgraded to more modern componentry. Wasn't a similar tourist operation in Philly...

    Hi All

I was thinking of a couple of other things that I had not already mentioned in my intro. I mean, how awesome are American military vehicles? Here are machines that were in some respects just intended to last long enough to get men and materials to the right place, on time, through anything...
