I remember reading about an episode of govt. waste back in the late 1990s or early 2000s, about a HUGE lot of some thousands of trailers that Uncle bought that were no good. 1-ton trailers or similar weight like the M1101 or 1102s, that were made incorrectly and were unsafe to tow at any speed...
Saw this on one of the other sites we like frequenting with our credit cards. This is a 1974 Ford C-600 cabover, looks like a short wheelbase fuel truck. The OD green paint job hints at a former military career. Anyone know what these were used for initially? While short and cute looking, it...
Not sure if anyone would be interested in attending, but this is a military vehicle (a rather LARGE one)...
Every year the USS Torsk Submarine museum in Baltimore MD has a work weekend to perform regular maintenance on the boat, and install new parts for the boat's restoration. Lots of work...
As I posted in a previous thread, I don't have a hamshack yet, but working on getting gear slowly together that will enable me to set up one in the future, at a different house. This place is nice, but really isn't set up to have a separate room for comm ops. But, I don't pass up getting a rig...
Looking for a few good men at Gilbert PA who have a military vehicle or two, restored in 24087 or other period appropriate colors, to display in the Vietnam encampment again this year at Gilbert 2011. We have more spaces than in previous years, can handle up to 2 or 3 more vehicles than we...
Well, sorta. Saw this on Wikipedia, picture of a M26 Dragon Wagon Pacific (the unarmored one) working underneath a Saturn V rocket section sometime around 1970. Link below, and a pic. The DW is the large (but small in the picture) vehicle bottom center...
Found this pics online - they were from a gentleman who worked at the LeTourneau plant back in 1961-2, and took these nice color pictures (along with dozens of others from the plant) but I thought these were interesting. Shows old Sherman tanks, and other tracked vehicles, that had been turned...
Anyone here lucky enough to own any military construction equipment from WWII to the present? Lots of bulldozers, scrapers, loaders, cranes, etc. served proudly, and though we can't drive them on the road much they are still cool.
And no, pics of you having an E-tool don't count as ownership...
The "Rome Plow" was made famous during land clearing operations in the Vietnam conflict, where specially equipped bulldozers were needed to level huge swaths of jungle and scrub to deny the enemy cover and concealment. Land clearing units were present in Vietnam from May 1967 until 1971. The...
Coming up in a couple weeks. The Gun Truck Gathering was held there last year. This year I might just be showing up to look around, was wondering if anyone local to that area is bringing their military truck....
The M915/916/920 has a Cummins 400 for an engine, and a Cat 7155 semi-automatic transmission, which based on feedback from others, is quirky and isn't very reliable. Is there another drop-in replacement for the CAT 7155 tranny that is more robust, preferably something in a full automatic for...
Saw this treechopper attachment for an ATV, looked pretty cool. Thought it would make a neat addition to a M274 Mule owner who has to clear land as well. What you all think of this idea?
I visited someone a couple years back who had an aircraft hanger with a OT-810 in it, along with some Unimog stuff, in MD. Can't remember who or where, but I need to PM this gent. Anyone know who it is?
Some years ago there was a website with a HUGE buttload of pdf manuals for all sorts of military radio gear, most was WWII up to about the 1960s. Easily 300 manuals, maybe 500. It wasn't LOGSA. This gear was older, not too useful to have manuals for the govt. to care about anymore. I have...
There was a gent here a while back that had an old genset with the M37 230cid engine in it, it looked stock. I know Chrysler had stationary engines used for gensets, but I can't remember what military gensets had that engine in it.
The subject came up with a friend talking about his M37 - his...
Saw a picture of this online, I can't find any information about it. Looks like a small trailer, maybe M1101 based, 2 axle with a fifth wheel hitch? Looks interesting, but I can't find any nomenclature on it. Is this an issue item, or custom?
Is there any dangers to running the deuce without the front axle boots installed? Other than probably a lot of excess grease running out of the knuckle, I can't see any tremendous headaches from having damaged or missing boots. ???
