A couple of things you always have to look out for:
The pullies on the alternators have worn or they have been replaced with smaller units. That makes the belts not fit properly.

Pull the excited box out and take off the cover. Tighten each and every screw or bolt. I had a unit that had the same problem. There where a couple of screws that where loose and would make intermitant contact.
Job well done on troubleshooting. Many user wouldn't have the guts to take the fuse box apart.
While it is fresh in your mind make a diagram of how you box is wired. It will help you in the future and any new owners down the road.

You may want to label the solenoid as bad so someone(you maybe) in the future does hook it back up. I know my memory plays tricks on me and I'll go back and ask myself why something isn't hooked up.
Good Job! You found it. The fast idle solenoid has a short. Sometimes you can take them apart and repair the internal coil.
All part of diagnosing the problem and stepping thru the individual items until the issue is found. Glad we could help.
Remove the connector from the Cold Advance Temperature switch at the right rear of the engine (item #2) and make sure you check the wiring to see if it has melted to the exhaust manifold
Leave it unplugged and see if the fuse still blows.
If you read the Headlight Sticky it will show you where the red wire "should" be going to. It supplies power to many circuits.
