Hello Ken,
Thanks for the insight. It would have been nice to have been able to use the turbo as a mixer but if the system causes the engine to eat the turbo all is lost.
The way I currently see the system working is to have an electric two-speed axle shifter switch on the tranny sifter to...
Does anyone have an opinion as to as what weather (ambient) temperature one should stop using a 25% WEO to NR 2 Diesel blend?
I personally like the WEO concept because it adds lubricity. I want to build a "conservative" propane injection system (injecting say 5% of the appoximate btu...
Has anyone got out there got a specific fuel consumption chart for and LDT465 that they could please attach and sumbit?
Ole Santa is trying to get his Sleigh fine tuned.
Thks
I just did a mileage test that indicated 12.28 MPG on a 10,500 lb bobbed deuce. The truck has 46.7" rubber, spin out front hubs and an electric cooling fan.
The test was done while mostly running 2150 RPM which, with the 46.7" rubber, equals approximately 56 MPH. At 2100 to 2200 RPM (during...
Does anyone know what would be involved in havng higher speed overdrive gear sets built and if it is feasible?
It would probably take a production run order of several sets to get the cost per unit under control BUT there might be sufficient demand to justify a production run.
Lee --- I spoke with Spal USA. The 24V fan pulls 9.6 amps.
I don't know where I got the 40 amp number. I guess the 60s were good to me --- I seem to have lost a lot of brain cells somewhere along the way.
First of all ... don't shoot the messenger but as someone that spent over 30 years in the rendering and vegetable oils industry I fear more and more of this is going to be happening.
With diesel prices soaring the renders are starting to loose more and more of the grease (WVO) business and are...
I can take a voltage reading tomorrow. Currently all I know is a 40 amp fuse handles the circuit
I feel the truck has a lot more noticable power when you shower down on it.
I made another 40 mile run today. Except for when I was in town and therefore running below 40 MPH the fan stayed off...
Hello Devilman 96,
Thanks for articulating on this subject. You've certainly sold me --- I'm glad this subject came up before I modified the TC shifter. I guess if I need a leg rest I'll have to build one.
I've got an M37 transfer case out in the garage that I rebuilt several years ago and...
Hello Lee,
I just got off the phone with Spal USA concerning the 24 volt relay. They sent me the wrong controller --- sent a 12 volt versus a 24 volt. In a few days I'll have all the stuff spread out on the table --- I'll post what works.
The 24V system doesn't have as many options as the 12...
Update (Success) on Fan Project:
Today I removed the fan and cut away as much of the plywood mounting as I felt I could remove and still have a sturdy/rigid mount for the fan.
Only one picture is attached. I forgot to take me camera along so I could take pictures of the modification in...
Hello Devilman.
I've rebuilt several M37 transmissions and transfer cases but I've never been inside an M35 TC. I was under the impression that the M35 TC shift lever pivited back and forth inside a ridgid slot (casting) and therefore side thrust would not cause the problems you mentioned...
This may be crazy but would it be possible "and feasible" to split between 4th and 5th gear by using the transfer case?
It seems like I read about someone that was using the TC to split 4th and 5th --- much like a Mack Duplex.
I'm going to weld an extension onto my transfer case shifter and...
Hello Lee,
Thanks for your input. I took the Stradivarius (see below) for another run this evening. Ambient temp was 70 degrees. This time I left the fan off to see if free flow air would be sufficient to maintain 180 degree "thermostat" temp. At 55 MPH (2100 RPM) I only pull 650 EGT and 2...
Hello Builder77,
I'm guessing it could be a problem in a hot climate and perhaps even up here in the north country where 80 degrees is considered a hot day.
Having said this, I'm considering installing a by-pass switch that will allow me to manually activate the fan at certain times --- like...
Hello rmqill,
I elected to go with the single fan option because of simplicity of installation and cost. I've got $275.00 invested in the single fan operation. Had I gone with multiple fans it would have been double that amount not to mention much more difficult to install. I wanted to do the...
Update on Fan Project...
This morning we removed the water pump fan and wired the electric fan For some stupid reason the Spal fan kit didn't include a temperature sensor so we wired the fan with a manual on/off switch.
I took a 20 mile drive to the grocery store in Cook MN --- 20 miles over...
Hello Mudguppy,
Rdixiemiller has got it right.
My friendly tire guy looked at me like a bull looking at a ba$7ard calf when I asked him if he wanted to tackle the job --- but he went ahead and changed them anyway. Given that the wheels had recently been appart and new boots and tubes were...
