RE: Some pics
Superdave ... That is one fine looking M37 Warwagon! :-)
I've always wanted to go the 265 route but have been reluctant to do so for fear the aded stroke length, even in a balanced engine, might not lend itself well to the higher RPMs required to run 65 MPH --- even with...
I experienced this same problem with an M37 transfer case several years ago. After rebuilding the case it wouldn't stay in high gear without applying forward pressure on the shifting lever.
I pulled it back out, carefully inspected it --- couldn't find anything wrong, and ended up rebuilding...
The boys in Greenland really know how to deck out their iron --- thks for sharing the pics.
I've got a line on a 265 flathead short block and would love to have the added power over a 251 but I'm concerned about being able to spin an engine with a 4-3/4 stroke up to (and over) 3,000 RPM.
A...
I installed a new stainless steel exhaust system, complete with muffler, last year and it completely eliminated the whine of the c-turbo.
One of this summer's projects is to add a cross-over pipe and a second stack. When I order the raw material for the twin stack project I'm seriously...
RE: What
No ... I wasn't aware that M43s or M152s were equipped with winches.
Thanks for the insight on everything.
I've wanted to build a 251 for an M37 for several years because I've always felt the difference in power is substantial. (I've always been told a 251 would handle 489 gears in...
I question whether it's possible to get over 10 MPG on a 230 flathead.
I've got a completely rebuilt (but broke in) 230 in a modified M37 that refuses better than 10 MPH. The truck doesn't have a top or troop seats or canvas, has highway friendly Denman tires, electric fan and 489 gearing and...
I'm thinking about buying a Canadian M152 Telephone Truck
The M152 resembles the M43 ambulance only with a single door in the back and three windows on each side.
I'm "very" familiar with the US versions of the M37 & M43 but outside of knowing the Canadian trucks have 251 long block engines...
The 230 Chrysler is good for 2,500 which equates to 45 MPH.
When you get over 2500 RPM you will pickup a vibration. Close to 2600 the unballanced engine will start wanting to jump out of the frame rails.
One of the worst mistakes I made when I rebuilt my 230 motor was not having it...
By the time you change a bearing here and there (seems like one always gets torn up), and you replace front end parts, seals and gaskets you're going to spend more than $1,000.00.
IMHO I'm not concerned about using the drum brakes as long as you keep the mud out of them and keep them in good...
Concerning Remote Filters and Cold Weather ...
I’m going to talk to several truckers and loggers in the International Falls area to get their first blush reaction to remote filters and cold weather.
From a layman’s standpoint, it stands to reason that an 8 micron filter with say double (or...
I just spent the best part of another day reading more Steel Soldiers threads on oil filters. There is a LOT of reading required to get up to speed.
In reading Bjorn’s response to my last post I take it that below zero weather could (or might) render remote filters inoperable; in a suspended...
Hello,
I just spent the last three hours reading the various threads on spin-on the spin on oil filter solutions several members are working on.
Like everybody else, I'd like to eliminate dry starts AND keep the soot, Audi hub caps and other nasty stuff out of my oil.
In a perfect world...
At highway speeds the M37 transfer case pulls a lot of heat which was the reason I installed 489s.
You can easily cam a 318 V8 to deliver enough RPMs to push am M37 with stock 583 gears at 70 MPH BUT the transfer case probably won't last long. The taller 489s give the transfer case a fighting...
As someone that has built and still owns three M37s I can say that building an M37 that is capable of "half-way" keeping up with traffic is expensive.
I say this because if you plan on venturing out onto an interstate @44MPH you're going to be a danger to yourself and those around you. Even...
As stated in my original post --- I've already got a freeze plus heater but want to ALSO install a bottom radiator hose heater. I'm concerned about clearance between the radiator hose (heater) and the fan belt. Just wanted to know if anyone had ever seen one installed.
Anyone out there have any experience with installing a heater in the bottom radiator hose on an M35?
I've already got a freeze plug heater but want to install a hose heater to help starting and shorten the time it takes to get the defrosters working.
The bottom hose appears to be close to...
The reason I am thinking R6602 is because I figured it would be easier to bolt up in the same way putting an LDS Multi-Fuel in an M35 would be.
I want to be able to keep the standard M35 transmission.
Do you have something in mind?
I've been spending some time in the 5-Ton section of the site reading about the R6602 gasser engine.
I'm guessing that some of the really bad MPG numbers I'm reading about like 2 MPG have a lot to do with heavy gross weights.
Does anyone know if a R6602 will fit in an M35? I'm guessing if...
