Nice truck. And yes I have a guy who builds all my Allisons he's going to get me the 4500 and have another guy wire it and mate it to the motor. I have this 740 sold for more than what I'm getting the 4500 for. Do you leave the 740? And add a hydraulic pto? And as of right now I fall under a low...
lol thanks now I know for sure!!! And this truck came with g291 but only had singles in the back. I'll be giving them back to the guy I got the truck from since I have 1600 xzls on it already. Also today I took off the tube wheels in the front and put a set of 5 tons fit perfect.
Well on eBay I found some York compressor brackets for this motor. And I doubt the air box inside has a condenser. So. Most likely I will go with an standalone air box inside. I have a roof unit from red dot but this truck with 1600 tires is really tall. But I'll see about the ac when I get...
hello all yesterday i took delivery of a pretty clean with 50k miles 1992 m916a1. the guy i got it from took off the hitch, roller and winch. better for me i was going to scrap all that. today i got to work by putting some pretty newish 16r00 michelins with the 5 ton wheels out back and custom...
well i use them with over 16 tons of water plus the tank and plumbing i make my 900s into water trucks. the springs hardly ever give me problem. but when I'm going a good speed and hit a bump. all i hear is a snap and the main leaf is broke. but it takes a lot to break them.
Red barn customs used to sell them I used to see them on their site not no more. But who knows give them a call. http://redbarncustoms.net/5-ton-chunks---housings.html
I don't know the mph but my trans guy puts the first/reverse gear pack from an 653 Allison which makes the first gear on the 654 4.17 to a 653 8.05 ratio big difference. I use my 5 tons for water trucks I load them with over 16 tons of water plus the weight of tank, pluming, and pump. Also the...
Made 308rwhp. Lower than I was hoping but that dyno is a load type. And I was told with the drivetrain I have it's having a ton of parasitic loss. Runs way better though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZFARP1P0qM
Because when I add a long travel 4 link I will need the power. And I had the motor sitting for 7 years and just wanted to use it. And since the truck never has to be smogged. It's a perfect candidate. And I don't know who does but call tri county gear in California for that.
The swap took a bit over a month. Only because I was ill for almost. 3 weeks it had a 6.5 turbo diesel. So what saved time was it bolted up right to the transmission. And right to the motor mounts. And thanks!
ello all. i figured i would post my build on here too. hopefully gain recognition
well heres info on the truck.
1968 m715 kaiser jeep.
had it since 91 i was not even 1 year old when my dad brought it. he messed with it a while. then my brother did. and now its mine!
was originally a sea bee...
I don't even know what those are. I love 5 tons because their cheaper. Cheaper to run. And are very easily turned into a water truck. And parts are easily found.
One has a 3208 cat with a 653 allison we don't use that one any more. And the other one which is the one I'm driving right now has a 350 big cam 4 cummins. 654 allison and a 55000 series transfercase. They run good but for steep climbs. I struggle far less with a 5 ton.
