Hard starting on veggie oil is not a good thing, it promotes coking of the injectors, wonder if hard starting on anything will cause coking.
You may want to pull an injector and inspect the tip......
Two batteries in series should easily handle the 300 amp or so for a starter motor, so if you pulled two "bad" batteries you could still crank the engine.
They are in series, parallel, just a confusing drawing. The bottom two are in parallel and the top two are in parallel and the two pairs in series.
There are 3 each 24 volt taps and one 12 volt, not familiar with the "tester" symbol, it usually symbolizes a fuse.
RE: Re: RE: Hawker AGM Battery article
Low beams probably only use 5 amps or so, your standard 6TL (6TN before 1987) battery has a reserve capacity of 200 minutes, which means that you can draw 25 amps for over 3 hours before the battery voltage drops to 10.5 volts.
From "Battery and stuff" ...
Re: RE: Hawker AGM Battery article
The deuce is not like the "modern" trucks, it doesn't need the batteries to run except for lights etc.....so if the batteries get you started, forget them.
From what I read, the new trucks need battery power to control the engine and even the transmission not...
They are probably working on another monster computer program that includes the location of the stowage boxes, so that it can be specified by the numbers, like so many other things these days.....kind of like the maximum permitted energy input to the driver's H-point as was noted in the FMTV...
No reason to pull the starter yet. Follow Chuck's advise above and replace the battery terminals or at least clean them thouroughly first and tighten them good. A poor connection with a high resistance can generate a lot of heat and melt the termial when you try to run the starter.
You will...
Some of the basics remain the same.... :)
They do make a big deal out of the electronics in the performance section of their brochure, IMHO that's a liability.
I think it's classified as a 7 or 7-1/2 ton truck, wonder if they sell those commecially also with all the off-the-shelf parts in the engine and crew compartments.....
Re: RE: Long haul milage numbers
Yes, siped 1100-20 NDCCs.
BTW, with the veggie oil/biodiesel used, the average fuel sost was just over $2.00/gal for the trip.....
I have a couple to clean up and complete (parts bent or missing), but which one are you guys discussing here, the "fat" one or the "skinny" one, I'm assuming it's the fat one?
Right, a thermocouple generates its own little voltage, which can be displayed by a non-powered gauge (including the K-type). You will need power for illumination, though....
A couple of results from the cross country trip back in 2006. The data is in the image description. Those are average numbers, so they include fuel stops and idling times.
The 1,360 mile run from Ventura, CA to OK City, OK averaged 9.52 MPG and that was without the trailer/tow. The weight was...
