Just drained the transfer case again and there was some stuff on the magnet. I felt smooth and silky and not gritty. Replaced the fluid with 50/50 mix of 80/90w and Lucus and the noise that I had quieted up 90%. At least I know it's from the transfer case, not sure what I will do next. Have you...
Welcome from Houston Texas, I grew up in HB and have many fond memories. Good luck in your search, there seems to be a lot of vehicles coming out of Barstow.
If you think its the transfer case, how about adding an additive like Lucas to see if it gets better or worse. Im thinking of removing that little driveshaft so I can lube it, not sure how hard it will be and if it has ever been lubed since the fittings are hard to get to.
I've taken several to the scrapyard that had an EUC. I usually take off the data plates and keep the scrapyard ticket to prove that they were scraped, in case someone asks me where they are. Not sure if I am doing it correctly, but it's to late now. FYI, got $225 for the last one M105 i scraped

I know this is no help, but my M923a1 has a buzzer that is out but the light does work. The truck was rebuilt in 2010 and has not worked since I've owned it. Could the Failsafe alarm be the problem?
From Erik's website:
Failsafe alarm monitor (warning control module) for all of the M939 series...
Thanks guys for all your tips and knowledge. I have similar issues with my M923a1 but know nothing about all the air plumbing. I know have a little knowledge to go picking around. Sounds like very little to no quality control when they rebuild these trucks.
Very nice truck. I always get thumbs up from bikers and guys in big 4x4s. Got a dirty look from a soccer mom in a Toyota mini van once, she was to dumb to pass me on the freeway.
Great thread. My M923a1 does the same thing, I just changed the oil in the transfer case and it was black. But didn't fix the noise. I have also greased all the drive shafts, still no change. Mine is intermittent and seems to be related to bumps in the road. The noise starts instantly and stops...
