look for a "real" batt shop, my local guy had a pair of rods down his shop wall & just hooks up whatever he needs charged, I don't know if he's still around or not, so if you can't find someone local let me know & I'll look him up ...
no big deal the shifter stuff & the joint that connects to the s-gear..
I would take everything from the gear box up & use the best parts..
I think the firewall seal must be removed also....

I used the dynomax on my non whistler made the noise much better, used jegs 30734 stainless band clamp worked great..
next i'll try it on a whistler hope it works as good....
batt drain test
make shure all power drains are off (remove dome light ect) remove the neg batt cable, place a test light between the neg cable & post if the light lights you have a drain/short go to the fuse block & remove fuses till the light goes out. when you pull a fuse & the light goes...

elec wipers
there was a post looking for one piece windshields sat. in the reply there was a link for a off road prefomance place that had a 24v conv for $35.
I don't know anything about them or the product but might be worth a look
grease?
it sounds goofy, but: gm has had problems with the sound you describe,
I have seen it on at least 4 trucks pull the yoke out of the trans & clean & grease the splines...
on mine the sound would happen when you leave a stop, not while shifting..
