I finally got some Behr Exterior that is a close match to the IDF Sinai Grey I was looking for. The only problem is I took the advice from one of the other threads that flat had a similar sheen as OD 24087. It does not. It is FLAT (as the name would suggest). So now I'm going to paint it in the...
I've been falling down on the job getting photos posted. This morning my computer crashed (power supply died) and I wasn't sure I'd get it back up and running but 1 new power supply and here we are.
Keith got the bed front panel welded in today so the only thing really left, metal wise, is the...
I haven't found specific photos of M37s but a TON of M38s and halftracks. Here's a link to some other IDF vehicles including 6 Day War Power Wagons (pic 2):
IDF ARMOR ??? ??????-??"?: IDF -Tactical armor, Apc,Half tracks, tracks, light vehicles
Keith_J was back out doing his welding thing today and finished getting the right cowl rust damage fixed. He basically had to cut the bottom part of the panel from the top seam down to the bottom and from the door edge to about 1/2 across, in other words most of the bottom. On the top he cut...
Used to be an awesome butcher shop in Wauchula that had this spice call "Monkey Dust." Good stuff but that was like 30 years ago so no telling if it's still there.
I wish I had 1/10th of your ability or patience while working on my M37.
Sorry to hear about the problems.
After I rebuilt all of my wheel cylinders and 2 of them continued to leak I decided to go with the new MC right off the bat rather than have the issue you're having now. I also ordered 4 new wheel cylinders and have to put them in yet.
Biggest problem I'm...
Here's a site that shows how to mix the paint from different model companies.
The amount that I've found on ours is closest to the one shown for the Yom Kippur War although the years are still listed as '61-'73.
I'm going to try and get some of the Tamiya paints and mix a sample.
IDF...
Went to Hobby Lobby yesterday and they did not have it. There were several packs for "military models" but nothing in those either. I'll have to try on-line or contacting Testor's directly.
From the discussions I've had with LEOs (including MV owners) a 5 ton requires a Class A license. It can be a CDL or non-CDL but due to the weight you need the upgrade. And it doesn't matter if the truck is registered as a former military vehicle or not, still need the Class A.
Auto paint stores can't do flat paint (as in CARC like paint) and have difficulties with semi-gloss as well. You can get just as good a "military style" paint job with the correct house paint. Lots of vehicles in the military in the 50's were painted with brushes as well (although I still plan...
After finding 3 clues that our truck once belonged to the Israeli Defense Force (Hebrew on spare tire, correct color under the current OD green, Israeli phone token buried in grease on frame) the wife decided she wants it dressed back in IDF colors. In this case Sinai Grey (thanks to M813rc for...
Thanks Rory! That gives me a good lead that I didn't have before.
The greyish/tan-tannish/grey color is there under the last coat of OD. I knew it was several shades off our Desert Tan so didn't want to go that bright.
For those that don't know the color here's a 601 from the 6 Day War in...
Thanks AZ.
I actually sent an email to the IDF to see if they can give me some history based on the VIN and an actual paint code. I'll post it if I get a response.
They must have had a big issue with paint. I ordered a gallon of 24087 3 weeks ago and finally emailed them last week. Amazingly it had just shipped hours before they emailed me back.
While I've got everyone's attention though, anybody know what the Israeli Defense Force khaki color from the...
After finding a couple of clues on our M37 that it may have belonged to the IDF at one point (Israeli phone token hidden in grease and Hebrew on the spare tire) my wife decided she wants to paint it as if it was still in the IDF. There are remnants of the color under the current OD paint but...
Well the wife has been seeing a whole lot of tear down and very little reassembly so I thought I'd throw a couple of pieces back on just to make her feel better.
Here's the left side engine cover back in place. I'll have to take it back off to finish the cab panel but for now it'll hopefully...
