1) I wouldn't go any bigger than a 285/75-16 on the stock wheels, roughly 33" tall and 11-1/2" wide.
2) The wider wheels will only be necessary if you go to a significantly wider tire.

I've noticed the same thing as Brian, same fluid throughout the driveline.
Makes sense, as it eliminates any possibility of two different viscosities mixing and also simplifies materials requirements for servicing.

So it made sense for me to buy another truck to get what I needed.
Those large bolts on the sway bar should be torqued to 320-lb/ft, which makes them a bear to remove even when not rusty.
If you can get ahold of a pneumatic impact gun, that would be best. Meanwhile, spray it down with a lot of penetrating oil, and try applying heat.
