Great pics.
As a bit of a sidebar, has there ever been a coordinated effort to produce 5 ton hubs?
Materials-wise, they should be not that much different from 2.5T hubs, and we know that the majority of the work is in the setup and machining.
Best,
Bob
Late to the party so it seems as though this advice has already been given, but after 15 years of metalworking, I finally bought a mag drill.
I think back to all of the time I wasted with holesaws and step drilling.
Bottom line - a mag drill, for metal 1/4" and over, is the. way. to. go. No...
The 8.3-6CT is surprisingly small given its power (mine is a 250hp version, with ~700ftlbs torque available very low in the power range).
This is only about 4 inches both longer and taller than the 5.9-6BT.
I'm happy to get the tape out on mine if anyone needs a measurement - just PM me so I...
Hi Guys
I am starting to wire the electrical on my project, and I'm torn between doing one of two systems. I'd love some feedback, and I invite you to comment either on the synopsis or any of the scenarios in the details of potential options.
Thanks for any feedback!
Synopsis:
I am torn...
I don't know why you guys are so crazy about the LDT, which (before fuel screw work) makes all of 134 HP, 300-something ftlbs, all in a massive 478 cu-in package that weighs three quarters of a ton, is somewhere around 50 inches long, and despite being detuned to the point of truly being "grunt...
I am at a crossroads with the new project, and I am wondering if I could cure some or all of my sheetmetal and fitment woes with 5 ton parts.
Could I trouble anyone on the list to put a tape on their 5 ton fenders, and report back? A handy measurement to have would be the length of the top of...
Wow. I have basically that entire kit on a rockcrawler that I've been looking to part out. Of course, it would be minus pump, but those are cheap.

OP, looks good.
Guys, the issue is space and location of peripherals.
The 10 speed is about 4 times as big as the 3053, volume-wise, is maybe 50% longer and twice as wide. The deck height of the tranny is also incredibly high - it's basically inches below the top of the bellhousing. So, you will run into major...
Hi Gang,
Synopsis:
Did the early M39 / M809 series trucks ever see any difference in steering arms on the axle? Meaning, was there ever a shorter or longer example?
Details:
My 5 ton-based project is continuing, slowly. I'm now looking at an interference issue between the steering arm on...
Generally, the 24 volts is only used by the lights in these gauges. You may opt to swap the lights, or use a stepdown resistor to "convert" the 24v to 12v.
Do the math on what final gear ratio you want. There is surely an Eaton Fuller tranny that either exists, or can be built, to provide your desired ratios.
As an explanation, all 9/10 or 13/15 speed trannies work like this: there is a manually shifted, very tight ratio 5 speed gearbox in the...
Tungsten lights don't really have a positive and a negative, even though the leads may be colored that way. While good wiring practice suggests that you should pay attention to the colors and keep your wiring neat, if these are only single filament bulbs, it's not critical how it's wired.
Just...
