Other power sources for sprocket-powered winch - am I missing anything?

I'll see if I can dig some data off of the winch this weekend. It's well painted over, but may have some information under there somewhere.

Other power sources for sprocket-powered winch - am I missing anything?

BTW, one thing does occur to me - this engine is equipped with a power steering pump, which might permit me to easily plumb in a spool valve for winch control, although this would still be somewhat of a pain to power from in-dash.

Other power sources for sprocket-powered winch - am I missing anything?

Hi Gang, I traded for a big Garwood/Braden-style winch, which did not come with any power source, save for a roller chain sprocket on it. I would guess that it was originally PTO-powered, but that's honestly anyone's guess. I figure that mounting it and powering it is one of the little...

Retrofit Meritor Q series brakes onto 5 ton toploaders

Oh yeah, smart eyed viewers will notice that the tie rod is in front. I simply flipped the axle around so that it would work with the M35 tcase. Maybe one day I'll hide the tie rod behind the axle.

Retrofit Meritor Q series brakes onto 5 ton toploaders

If nothing else, this post should hopefully inspire someone to go look for, in my opinion, the next big thing for our trucks, which will be either disk brakes, or the location of stamped Meritor Q series backing plates, which can then be clocked accordingly and then welded to the knuckles, for...

Retrofit Meritor Q series brakes onto 5 ton toploaders

Hi Group, I have been extraordinarily busy over the past few months, and one of the projects has been to retrofit S cam drum brakes to my front, 5 ton axle. These are Meritor 16.5x7" air brakes, which I feel are going to be much much better than the stock juice brakes. I had a set of these...

    Rim Conversions for 53" Tires

Just as an aside, I did a double take to see your Oak Leaf avatar with the word "Corporal" next to it. :D

    M931A2 New Addition!

Nice! Isn't that a fun little motor? Not sure if yours is P-pumped, but mine is, and already wears a #10 fuelling plate. It's my dim recollection that there are differences in the 8.3 as installed in the military trucks, but I can't recall what those are (and I may be remembering incorrectly).

    Dual Circuit Brake Engineering Thread

Well, should there end up being a thread for creative solutions, that would be the place for this explanatory post: I have all the parts to a 2 circuit, air-over-hydraulic foot treadle and master cylinder system. I painstakingly pulled this system from a commercial truck, with the intent of...

    Dual Circuit Brake Engineering Thread

hndrsonj, you may be interested in some parts I have..... long ago, before I realized that the M35a2 platform had more limitations than I wanted to deal with, I purchased air over hydraulic parts from a Hino cab over truck - air treadle, master cylinders with bracket, and a few assorted air...

I guess that answers my question - thanks!

    Hood swap made Easy!

Question - is there any type of interface between the M923 hood / front clip, and the M800 series 5 ton cab? I am trying to figure out my next move with the front sheetmetal on my M35-based project, and an M923 front clip would be a nice upgrade.

    Another HF54 conversion

This reminds me - I have a box of old steering parts - drag links, ball studs, and the like, that are remnants from the old steering projects I did on my old M35a2 (which eventually wore three different full steering setups!). I the steering on my new project is perfect, and so I'll never need...

    5 ton 10 ton

As you plan on "recentering" that front axle in the front fenders, remember why that axle is so far forward in the first place. As I recall from that platform (and I may be incorrect), the main concern is clearance to the oil pan. This is one thing I found with my 8.3 build - the 5 ton chunk is...
