Medium Duty Allisons, 2000 & 3000 series have much deeper OD gearing. Somewhere around 0.65. Many of them have higher 1st gears as well (including torque multiplication) than the stock Deuce granny.
I'd replace the A3 4 speed Allison with a 5 or 6 speed Allison w/ good OD gearing. Just put...
What I want to know is, can 5 ton hubs be adapted to 2.5 ton axles?
I realize the 5 ton shafts are much larger diameter. But it would be nice to keep 2.5 ton housings & differential center sections since parts such as ARB lockers, pinion bearings, etc are easy to find. The thought of...
Dug,
Lockout hubs + either a regular "Detroit" or ARB air locker up front only requires the lockout hubs + the differential. Maybe consider a power steering upgrade as well.
Lockout hubs on the front-rear tandem axle would require double-ended-splined axle shafts such as those offered by...
I don't understand the Gearhart axle assemblies. Is the differential still a 2.5 ton/16 spline differential or is it a 5 ton differential? The axle shafts are larger diameter. so the differential has to be change as well, right?
How would one keep 2.5 ton axle housings & differentials but...
I bet if you looked at the statistics involving Deuces and accidents that you would find they are uncommon. They are slow, loud, and the owners are very aware of this & adjust their driving style accordingly.
If anything, I would suspect the Deuces have a much lower percentage of accidents...
Thanks for the info. I think you are correct in that it was used to carry large spools of electrical wire. And we all know copper gets heavy in a hurry.
That's what I was wondering. This thing is pulled by a 900 series truck or something.
If I hook up the trailer brakes to the constant-air-supply side of the Deuce that should free up the air brakes, right? They won't work, but they won't stick either.
Do trailer air brake connections fit the...
Absolutely.
In fact, I'm contemplating using the M36 bed as the bottom mount/skid plate. I might weld up custom tanks that fit under a false floor exactly the height of the M36 bed. That would allow access by lifting floor panels & would completely enclose the tanks with M36 bed metal. The...
Nope, I bought it based on the dimensions I found in the specifications. It's about the right length, might need a tiny extension welded to the tail end for the M36 bed which is 17' overall.
It's heavier than even the M796 by a little. If it ends up being too big then I'll just chop the...
Thanks for all the answers. Yes, I thought 14 tons was a typo on GL when I saw it.
But there were two of them, both rated at 14 tons. I ended up winning one of them.
It's a model that I've never seen before until this auction. Here's a link to it. Now that the auction is closed it should...
So the air supply at the rear glad handles is always pressurized, I assume. I never bothered to check.
That would pressurize the trailer brakes, freeing them up for travel. The trailer could then be towed, without brakes, to the destination.
I hope that I've interpreted that properly. Does...
I won a 14 ton bolster trailer today. I plan to use the frame, tongue, & lunette but will ditch the axles in a future poject.
I want to pick up the trailer with the Deuce. This trailer is normally towed by a 5 ton. It appears to have air brakes.
My question for the trailer experts is...
