I say get the turbo, leave the transmission. Put in a Gear Vendor's overdrive or something like it. The Turbo 400 is way better for toughness than a 700r4 I just did a 700r4 conversion on a 77 Corvette and it was nothing but surprises. In all fairness it is working better than the 3 speed...
RE: starter bolts
I will second the Snap-On reccomendation. Their stuff is twice as expensive, but works twice as well. You can get it off the internet and they'll ship to your house. You can also buy just the size you need. They were running a sale on some screw extrators.
RE: Re: RE: Pulley??
One last update from me on this. I installed the new pulley and the problem is solved. Wish I had checked this before I did the balancer. Oh well.
Have you tried heat yet? Oftentimes I find using the Mapgas plumbing torch to turn something cherry red will really motivate it move. I would say try some heat, if you get the old extractor out, and try a different extractor.
RE: Re: RE: Pulley??
I closely observed the situation yesterday. I could see my balancer running straight and normal. The pulley, however, was wobbling. On mine I didn't have to take anything apart. You can see the balancer behind the pulley. So, I guess I need to secure a new pulley...
After three years of being laid up, my M1009 thundered to life this afternoon. I replaced a harmonic balancer, as eluded to in another thread, and did the water pump along the way. With any luck at all we'll be "on patrol" again this weekend. I was shocked that thing fired right up. I did...
If you're running out of fluid, it's a leak, probably a wheel cylinder or caliper. If you're not loosing fluid it's probably a good bet that it's a master cylinder.
I had a similar problem and I just replaced my harmonic balancer and, the lower pulley still has the wobbles. You don't want to change the balancer for the heck of it. In taking mine apart I did remove and reinstall the lower pulley. I do feel better knowing that my 22 year old time bomb...
I tried LMC, I got the lines for a turbo 400 transmission (Blazer). They just didn't fit. In hindsight, I could try finding lines for a turbo 400/6.2 diesel truck. The lines I got, that didn't fit, ended up on the wrong side of the radiator. To further complicate the CUCV's have a...
Try a liberal soaking with liquid wrench first. You'd be surprised how well that stuff works. If you can't find that, get some P.B. Blaster (available at NAPA). I can't say enough for impact guns in this particular case either.
I guess I'll be bending. I could probably see if he's interested in doing some and send him what I've taken out. It would be a start. Oh well, another trip to the Snap-On truck....
Hello. New to SS Forum, not new to CUCV's. I have had my 86 1009 since April of 2001. It's been laid up for a while but I'm getting it back on the road soon. I replaced the harmonic balancer, water pump, and new belts/hoses. The belt information here was great. It's been a s struggle to...
