You will find the M416 series of trailers to be so useful you won't be able to live without one ever again. Wish 1/4-ton trailers were still an item you can find on GL, but those days are long gone. Good save!

Yes, it is common. It comes from having the truck parked out in the rain for a LONG time without a can covering the exhaust stack to keep water out, over time the J-pipe rust out. It can be repaired by a muffler shop, or you will have to find a replacement J-pipe.

My advice, the stock engine is pretty good, if it's running condition I'd keep it for originality's sake. If the stock engine is blown or missing, common replacements include the 350 Chevy, the 318 Dodge, or the 4BT/6BT Cummins diesel. I'd go with the latter myself, but all are decent...
