Yup, that's what I've been thinking.
But maybe I should get some slings so that the chains don't rub through the protective frame coating.
I'd like to prevent rust any way possible.
a Quick search came up with these:

I've got a 14' deck on my 10k lb GVWR Pequea skid steer trailer(same frame as the 14k lb GVWR model but lighter axles). the HMMWV is 15'.
Looks like I'll have to load backwards to fit with the ramps up...
Any suggestions on how best to chain it to this trailer?
I'll have five 10' chains and...
I haven't even picked mine up and already I'm hunting for parts to make it premium:driver:. If I ever decide to sell, it will probably be contingent on getting another one.
Let me know if you post pics!
From what I've read, the military still has over 250,000 of them. and although they are being phased out slowly, I wonder how the market price will be affected if eventually that many wind up in the public domain. I'm guessing that the phase out might speed up if...
Thanks Lawdog734!
I am no longer on the fence about what to do.
My trailer deserves an overhaul anyways.
Another truck? resale?
how long did you wait for the first one to get approved? I'm told it can take up to 4months with the current backlog.
I might sell mine if a better one shows up at...
the reason I asked about the tow vehicle is because the "rental company" seems to have an issue with my 5.9 High Output 4x4 dodge 3500 crew cab dually being "too light". and that the HMMWV is "too wide" for any of their trailers. something about their insurance...
Any advice?
did they say anything about your tow vehicle and trailer load when you rented the trailer?
I'm probably going to have to load backwards if using my 14' trailer.
the ramps are up in the stowed position.
seems like I can gain about 1.5' by having the rear hang over the front stop on the trailer.
83 is more like what I have between the tires on the trailer.
The space between fenders is 81.5"
looks like I'll be making the fenders removable.
What did you tow your HMMWV with?
So, anyone know the DEFINITIVE width from outside left to outside right of the tires on a M998 with the standard military wranglers?
The measurement would hopefully include the bulge near the base of each tire.
I've got to make sure it will fit between the fenders of my tailer.
Otherwise I may...
Yeah good point.
Thanks for calling me out on it.
By the barrel petroleum has actually dropped to below half of what it was just a few years ago.
However, the prices at the pump move a little differently...
I guess I'm just looking for another project, as if I don't have more than enough...
Has anyone here run their HMMWV on used vegetable oil AKA "Grease"?
What are the pros and cons?
is there a better way to do it verses a bad way?
Seems like the simplest way to start is to install a separate fuel tank and make sure to filter the vegetable oil as best as possible prior to putting...
My original plan was to install coil spring spacers. but it seems that it involves a whole lot of readjustment to get the camber and caster right...plus i'm guessing that that the wheels will be pulled closer together.
anyways, some of the newer humvees are built with a much higher suspension...
Is it true that the M1165 is factory built with spacers and longer bolts to make the body ride higher as compared to the M998?
Did AM general decided it was an improvement?
I've not yet decided if I will lift it.
still weighing out the pros and cons...
Seems that putting a cummins in it is off the table for now so I've lost that as a reason.
However, being higher off the ground is nice for driving through deep snow and keeping the body clear of ground hazards...
