I have a hypothesis as to why these do catch fire and my custom board design resolves my concerns from that hypothesis while keeping the external appearance the same. If anyone has a burned one I'd like to see it or buy it from you to rebuild :).
I've never had one catch fire, and the one I'm leaving "stock" is the newest one with all the protection stuff (G3 at $610).
There have been a few fires reported hopefully someone else will chime in.
Yeah I was thinking for side-to-side retention, and bolting something at the tail-gate end of the c-channel to keep the sled rails confined - this would only work if the tie downs or the corner bolts held the shelter down - but either solution for hold-down is great. If you're moving the...
I like the idea of positive retention - bolt it in if you can, strap it down for sure, and don't forget your dunnage underneath. For the 250 size, I'm a fan of the HMMWV attachment method:
if you can work in some way to use the dolly mount points, you should be able to bolt it in your bed.
'80 for me. I would've been in the back seat, but it still would've been awesome - except the tube socks, and really short shorts, and a tucked-in shirt, and the hair... but it would've been awesome. Funny how I coveted those when I was a kid, and now I'm building a "new" 30 year old truck...
Agree with Issac-1 about the issues with Grounding. NEC is still fighting with this issue to this date - the most concrete answers you will get are for permanently installed generators. Circuit ground-wires (equipment-grounds) and the panel ground-rod (system ground) are oft mis-understood...
You will find in life that it's kinda hard to get answers if you bite off people's heads when they offer answers. Even if you're annoyed, just letting it go is the best option. As it happens, I dug through the TM for the MEP-016a/701a and I can't find any indication that you can do a 240/120...
I bought one on fleabay and one in the classifieds here (both used, under $200), and one direct from Optimum Vehicle Logistics (brand spanking new for about $620).
Note there are two models, the older one and the newer one - the newer one has more protection built-in...
Wheel hop followed by some backwards motion, and improper steering which lets the front end get out to the side. Once that rig get about 45 degrees on a slope that steep, the engine is trying to push the front end down hill, and there's no rear end behind it to stop it any more - it just gets...
I like pre-oilers because they get pressure behind that oil before the engine is spinning, so you have a good oil film before it gets up to revs - less pressure building time for the oil pump too. The pre/post-oiler I have for the turbo is just to prolong the service life of the turbo, moving...
I must've watched a different video than you:

I'm expecting to cage the XM1027, not because I plan to off-road (really at all), I just don't want the cab space to be a crumple zone - pre 2000's trucks don't really have a crumple zone at all (except...
I was - these came from BAE, and DID NOT have the DLA "you must agree that you will not drive on-road" release document, they had a less restrictive BAE form - theses were non-DOD vehicle stock.
Sure they were not "new" but as described, they were only driven for PM and garaged the rest of the...
This is the one I'm putting in my XM1027 Cummins/CUCV-clone: TurboSafe
IIRC, they also have an engine pre-lube version for about the same price (was $300 when I bought, imported from Canada Eh?)
That's down near L.A. - probably too far south for me to pick up - I'll keep watching this in case there is any help I can offer.
Of course if weather keeps us out of the north on the West-to-East drive, we may have to re-direct south, so it's possible I may have something to offer later.
In a few weeks I'm headed that way - not going to be that far south (we're going north this time), but I might be able to help you get it closer. Where in California is it coming from?
