Thanks for all the offers and suggestions, guys. Yeah Chow717, I talked to Daves trucking too and it wasn't something they would do. The good news is that Matt (the GL site manager), called me yesterday and said the carrier I was using was at the base to pick up a load for somebody else. He...
I've always used Lucas diesel fuel products. I've never had a problem with components and the engines have always run smooooth so I guess it works. They also have an additive for the crankcase, and every other gear box. I use Lucas 80-90 gear oil too.
I won't use Mavel again. I added some to...
Well, I spent yesterday on the phone calling a number of other places with zero luck. The Memphis idea was a bust. They did give me a couple phone numbers to local guys that haul for them. Those turned out to be dead ends as well. I talked to Mike at the base and he is going to try to come up...
A spare tire carrier from a later model gm pick-up comes to mind. It's under the bed towards the rear and uses the jack handle inserted through into an orifice at the rear bumper and then turned or cranked. This feeds out a cable and lowers the spare to the ground. No lifting required. Might be...
Nice truck! Welcome to the site.
What's the story with the avatar? It looks like the 'after dead' pic of the trapper from decades ago that shot a couple Mounties in the Canadian wilderness and was hunted down. I forget his name... Freaky picture though.
I've used a propane heater a number of times during truck recoveries. I've got a couple different types but the small one that screws onto the top of a 1lb can works good. The burner faces upward, and you could even heat your lunch on it if you wanted. I use it for heating ice shantys and deer...
M37 Dodge, You bet... gas, wrap, lunch, and then some! Thanks for the offer! I'm hoping I won't have to go that route, plus I wouldn't want to get you on the wifes bad side.. That's a great idea checking with Memphis. I never thought of them going in and out of the place. I'll check with...
This really isn't a transportation need but seemed like the best heading to put it under. I need help with prepping a couple items for shipping. I've got 2 mep002 generators at the Chambersburg GL site that need to be prepped for shipping. To make a long story short, the UPS store located there...
I've used WD-40 before to start a 6.2l when the glow plugs were cooked. If you use starting fluid make sure NONE of the glow plugs are working. Introducing ether to even 1 hot tip will cause you greater problems than you already have. Also, if you have the older type glow plugs (AC13g's), they...
Ditto. Front line Military (flmv.net) has some of the harder to find cucv parts and he is great to deal with. Also, you may want to post your needs in the classified 'wanted' section. Lots of guys have 'parts' trucks on here that may have a controller card they could part with. Glad you are...
Hmmmm.... sounds fuel related. How many miles on it? Is the fuel pump original? I would start with replacing the fuel filter like you said. You may have gotten a tank of bad fuel. Could have been pushing a slug of water through. Make sure your fuel line connections are all tight, especially the...
I always replace the glow plug relay, and the starter relay under the dash as soon as I get a cucv. It's good insurance. They will fail by either not coming on or staying on. If they stay on, it will cause even more damage. You could cook a starter, wreck a flywheel, melt down the glowplugs...
Here's an option. One of our members here used an inexpensive backpack cover to put on his 5th wheel. The edges have elastic in it so it stretches out over the 5th wheel and stays on securely. Keeps the grease covered and the dirt and debris from sticking to it plus looks good.
