RD- Have you looked into 14.5R20 Michelin XL tires? Those were used on the M35A3 and are the same diameter as the 1100 but wider. Probably the perfect tire for super singles on a deuce.
RE: Re: RE: Re: How they/you do dat?
I have always thought they were the same(~46.6"). Keep in mind that with 1" tread, these tires can vary in diameter significantly. It is tough to measure tenths of an inch.
If no air shift, then you probably have a sprag (sprague) setup. There is also a kit to convert to manual shift with a level through the floor board. Try the search function for sprag and sprague and you will find plenty of info.
You might try Richie Bros auctions. I always see some good military stuff there in Edmonton www.ritchiebros.com Maybe you can bid on those two M945 bridge trucks and we can keep one each?
Yes, you can put the 12.50R20 tires on 5 ton wheels. No problem, except they are shorter than 11.00x20s. They are the same diameter as a 9.00X20. Probably not a good choice for the wrecker.
15.5/80R20 tires are the same size as 395/85R20. Current size used on FMTV 2.5 and 5 tons + other vehicles. They are the max size for use on a 2.5 ton, but would also be good on a 5 ton. They are wider than a 14.00R20 but 2-3 inches shorter.
Re: RE: Re: RE: Pics of my singled 5-ton with 16-20
No clearance issues with the bed? What about with the axles on the bump stops (i.e. big load, off road)?
I'm gonna look into it. It does look goofy with that bed, though (5ton xlwb bed?). I've got the crane for it.
I second the motion on the condition of Bruce's HEMTT. It looks and drives real nice.
James, looks like you got one heck of a deal especially since you get the snatch blocks, slings, shackles, wiffle tree, etc. For your inspection trip, I bet you were anxious during the 17 hours there, but smiling big time during the 17 hours back!
