RE: 5 Ton Advice Joe, thanks for your insight and perspectives. It is great to see you on the site. Have you got that deuce sold yet?

5 Tons trucks in New England

Not a one time fluke. I experience the same issues with Schotts. They don't seem to be geared toward the individual buyer. They are looking for sales in quantity.

I've never had a problem with the 15.5s on the front, even fully loaded. Here is another pic.

Deuce For Sale on PCH in Malibu

For $16,000 that must be one fine deuce! Please tell me it is not the black one with the chrome wheels and bumper. Have you seen the thread on the "malibu style deuce"?

    5 ton vs. deuce offroad

David "Dr. Deuce" Doyle- You never cease to amaze me! You have got to be the go-to man on all things duece.

    5 ton vs. deuce offroad

No it is not common. I have seen it done when trucks are used in rocky areas and are prone to flats. Having a blowout on the front is not good when you are on the fireline! I have done it with a deuce and even a 1ton dodge 4x4 as an experiment.

    Movie Trucks

Lookin' good! That M52 looks a lot better now that you have painted it. Good work. Post up some pics of these trucks earning their keep on the set.

    5 ton vs. deuce offroad

I agree with Bruce. A truck with lockers will greatly outperform one without. Nothing else will improve the offroad capability as much.

    5 ton vs. deuce offroad

To answer your question, they will respond similarly, but I would give a slight edge to a deuce because it is lighter. If I was choosing a truck to operate on mud, sand, and soft ground, I would start with a deuce with an airshift front end. Then I would add air-assist steering, rear lockers...

    Oshkosh Chassis on Ebay

Oshkosh is the parent company for Pierce, maker of fire trucks. Pierce has delivered a few trucks called the "Hawk Extreme" which are built on the Oshkosh MVTR chassis. If you have the $$$ you can get the truck! Check out this link for pictures of some recent deliveries...

    Medium towbars one fat

Bjorn- I think those adapters you have are for the older medium towbars. I can't see how you can use them with the large towbar since the ends of the towbar are different (male vs. female?). Does that make since? This page is from the towbar manual here on the site. It is a "medium" (up...

15.5's wow what a difference W/10" rim build

I have seen new tires for about $200 each. Used ones can be had all day long for $75-$100. I think orginal cost is $1200-$1400.

15.5's wow what a difference W/10" rim build

RE: 15.5 Sermis- I think you are going to really like the 15.5s. With those lockout hubs, you should get great performance onroad and offroad. Just be careful if you have a major load. The tires may rub the bed supports.

    Not A Lurker Anymore.

Don't we have another member on here from Giddings, TX? Surely there is a 2.5 ton or 5 ton near you who would gladly help out with a tow.

    Medium towbars one fat

Bjorn- The large towbars I picked up were NSN 2540-00-378-2012. The obvious difference is 1.5" pins all the way around. I want to get a pic next to my medium for reference/comparison.

Newbie looking for a good alternative to towing

A 927 would be sweet, you could maintain highway speed a lot easier than older 5 tons. Schott has never been too interested in individuals wanting a truck and making a deal. I think they are holding out for a big order and this truck will not fit your $8500 budget.

Newbie looking for a good alternative to towing

I think if you are using the truck to haul your offroad rigs, I would go with a lwb semi. Look for one that has had the sleeper removed and is now a daycab. That will give you the most frame/deck space to work with. Unless you are only going short distances to wheel, I wouldn't think the M818...
