Did you get any shots of the PPCLI bren gun carriers? One is from Shilo, and there should have been one from Edmonton. I did a little bit of work on the Shilo one.
Around 2007, they were disposing of them to the public, usually tagged as salvage or scrap. One owner in particular made a fuss that they were tagged as such, so the DND changed their policy and started sending them to selected federal pens for dismantling. The tires were sold in a separate...
Yes it is. If you look in the artillery section of G503.com, there is a thread there on my build of it. It was basically scrap iron and a lot of ebay purchases.
The C1 is actually a bit heavy for anything smaller than the deuce. For the lighter MVs, I have this:
Here is a shot of the pair of guns from the back.
My new(er) deuce....a M35Cdn MLVW
My little one. The first vehicle I ever drove was one of these back when I first joined the militia at 16...
What I mean by the double PTO is that I have used one from a dump deuce. They were also used on the various tank type trucks. It is an auxilery drive that sits on top of the regular PTO and provides a second individual PTO out the rear. It's perfect for things like a hydraulic pump or the water...
Here are some shots of my M135 after it got a better roof (not walked on nearly as much as the old one) and a gallon of Gillespie 24087 paint. It is attached to my C1 (Cdn version of the M2A2).
Still have to do the brakes on her, but as she sits she starts first crank, and purrs like a kitten...
If you go to TM9-8025-1,the GMC Model 302 engine manual, it covers the engine as configured for the truck and for the APC. The APC version uses a zenith updraft model 263AW14 carb. There are illustrations of each on page 11.
Yes it will, although I think I read somewhere that you have to change the master cylinder to an M35 cylinder as well, due to a check valve that is on the M35 that is not on the M135.
The local Base Maintenance replaced the master and airpack a couple years ago on the base museum's M133. They...
I would suggest you solder it shut as opposed to welding.
A trick that a friend did on a Bren carrier tank was to add a bunch of pea gravel in to it, close it up, and he strapped it to the rim of the tractor he was using that day. End of day he washed out the gravel, and the inside was...
Good to hear the thinners did not destroy the rubber. I used both laquer and acetone initially, and was not sure which cause the rubber to convert to goo.
What I would give to see temps above freezing again. We have been consistently around -15°F these days.
I just cleaned a tank that was left with fuel in it for 28 years. To look at it I thought it was hopeless. I used acetone (available at home depot) and by the time I finished it was as clean as a whistle inside. You will want to remove the fuel pump assembly first, or you will turn the rubber...
Gringeltaube has it right, you need to hold the flange. I just went through this job a week ago, and fortunately I have the right tool. Kent-Moore has a flange holding tool that bolts onto the flange with a hole in the center for the socket to go through. The tool is about 3 feet long. I like to...
Here is a shot of the Deuce I spoke of yesterday. It is captioned: "UN68291 Luluaburg (Congo). Sept 1960-
Three members of the Cdn contingent of the UN force in the Congo check the motor of an army truck which they have converted into a mobile radio station"
The truck's CFR is 55-53377.
A...
The tracking did not go into further detail than that for units. Sometimes I can figure out a bit more by looking at the old work orders, but I do not have the unit codes for all the various (and in some cases now extinct) units. Any move to overseas commitments would be shown though, as those...
Originally, the CFR was on the doors, about 8 inches or so down from the window. If your truck has the usual multi layers of paint, you can carefully sand or chemically strip the paint until the numbers show. However, if the doors have ever been replaced, or swapped from another truck, or the...
Some CFR info on your trucks:
53313 belonged to CFB Penhold from 1955 until 1979. From there it was transferred to HQ and Sig Calgary until retirement in 1984. It's last recorded work order had the mileage at 72289 miles.
53714 Was in Wainwright from 1956 until 1980. It went to Edmonton for...
I like doghead's idea. Signal the converter from the ignition thru a relay. Protect the main power to the relay (and hence to the converter) with a circuit breaker of reasonable amperage. I would not use a fuse since the blowing of the fuse would result in the loss of trailer lighting.
