RE: Re: RE: 818 question
I think you are right about the lights being the major issue. Everything else should hook up fine it would be a slow go with a 53' van at max load and you may in fact exceed the rating of the truck with many of the newer trailers being hauled by 500 to 600 horsepower...
And deadline the truck after you do PMCS..
Nice truck it amazes me that the truck was produced for so long. I was just talking to my DAC yesterday about GOERS and dueces he drove over here in the earlly 70's and he said his duece would always get him home even with several flat tires. I like...
What means did you use to capture the duece in the fifth wheel? I would have welded up a kingpin on a large wideflange I beam and lashed the front tires to it.
These old gals are being cleaned up and headed for re-fit. They are coming home after soldiering on for years in the land of the morning calm.
The pictures are in the maintainance area at Waegwan, not far from the famous Busan Perimeter of the Korean War.
Not that they will become available...
When I pulled the M127 home with my homemade M200A1 dolly convertor it looked a little funny with the dolly and the duece sporting 9.00 X20's and the trailer wearing 11.00 X 20's but it towed nicely and made highway speed on I 95. I am really looking forward to hooking it up to the M818 I...
RE: Re: RE: What is this stuff??
Most likely that is a 3-53 Detroit used to power the Gama Goat. It is a highly sought after engine and yours looks to be a new one or fresh from a depot overhaul. Nice find and I would put it in a pick up truck with a six speed transmission.
I would love to outfit a tractor with super singles as big as I could fit on it but that will require me to get a promotion to pay for them...I can see why the Russians often mounted duals on the front axle in the steppes outside of Moscow in WW II looking at the depth of the front tires in the...
RE: More pic
David
Did you put the levelwind on your truck from a wrecker? That is a great attachment to the five ton winch. I hope I can get 8 or better on our trip that will make getting home a little better on the pocketbook. You do have a great looking truck.
My M52 Gasser is far from dried up it starts as good as any gas engine with half the years on it. I am seriously anticipating the cummins powered M818 though since I do love diesel engines. The National Guard just finished rebuilding a lot of these M818's I saw a bunch at Aberdeen and asked if...
RE: More pic
Whoo Hoo! I am going down to pick up my M818 in March and can't wait to get it looking like yours. It is the same model with the winch and level winder Are you getting good milage out of it while bobtailing? My son and I have over a thousand miles to put on it to get it home so...
I love the room in the back of a covered duece great trip and nice pictures of the truck home on the range. Is that your neigbors laser sight aiming over the truck being jelous of not having a truck like yours. Any shots from the road trip? I am bringing my son along for our 1,000 plus mile...
RE: Re: RE: Re: How to make a M911 do highway speeds?
Sorry I posted the joke about the speed, I have had a lot of M911 experience being an Army transporter and the truck is just geared to move a 60 ton tank. Getting that load going faster than 45 on anything but a train would be very...
This is a wonderful reason that Steel Soldiers is my favorite place to hang out. Adam picked up my lube trailer and even though I was planning on driving down and picking it up we worked out a deal where he towed it up to my place and I am letting him use the dolly for an extended tour. I...
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: 5 ton v.s. duece
OK a sub topic maybe but what is the overall best five ton, M52 series M818 series or M936 series?
I think my duece is about average and have not noticed much difference in all the dueces I have seen.
My M52 with the gasser runs good but I was leaving a...
Get an M747 load an M1 tank on it and head to the top of a 9% grade of several miles put the truck in Angel Gear and it will go faster and save you fuel...... just kidding we lost a driver in one on a grade in Gagetown Canada so be careful exceeding the maximum highway speed without an engineer...
Good luck and I am saying a prayer for your safe trip. I thought 330 miles was a hike. Wow I am looking at a similar recovery in the spring in the M818. We are really looking forward to the pictures.
God bless
RE: Lubrication Trailers
Been there done that now my retirement date is set for 31 March 2009 Still waiting for the results of the Colonel board and that may change my mind..... When did the lube trailer design change from the one with duece wheels to the design you got?
Thanks for the discussion I plan on doing both fronts and one on the drivers side front drive tandem Still trying to determine if putting two on that drive axle is wasting money or would it cut down on internal gear movement? I am not an engineer either so the question is one of two lockouts...
