    Survival 109 build

This one was the best radio shack I've seen on the inter-webs (S-250 shelter): I hope my S-250 project turns out half as nice...

    LED Headlights?

I think it was $2K for two trucks... the 7" round 8700 Evolution 2 J.W. Speaker headlights can be had from several retailers for about $700 a set (~$350 each). The 8900 Evolution 5"x7" (200mm/H6054 - a.k.a. the one which fits CUCVs) is right around the same price, but they just released the...

    Survival 109 build

I want 4 of those spot light for my truck build - like they have on the MRAPs: I'd love to have it with the White/940nM-IR, probably have to do a retrofit...

    LED Headlights?

Tanget but - I'm building an engine for about $15K to go into a truck I bought for $1.5K... After the fact it's always more expensive. Back on target, headlights are like your #1 safety device after the sun goes down. You could have brand new tires (x6 on a 5-ton), new brake master cylinders...

    LED Headlights?

Here's a really good scientific shootout between the two. And a video with some commentary from an owner of both: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McepWRQnawA And another comparison article: http://www.fourwheeler.com/how-to/electrical/129-1212-high-output-led-headlight-test/

Despite the suffering, at least you can rest with the knowledge that it looks awesome!!! Nice clean job :)

    Forward Operating Base In-a-Can

I've actually been following the Win-T initiative for a few years. It takes a while to roll out at "Army scale", you have to figure out how to make it work, get the product vendors (COTS) set up to make what you need, gain the trust of the people whose lives depend on it, get budget behind it...

    LED Headlights?

I like J.W. Speaker lights - twice what TruckLites go for, but IMHO a better beam pattern, better look, and they have a little internal fan that helps melt the ice off the lens (stirs the warm air inside the housing). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygvYo7Zjq1M Oshkosh has been showing their...

    Forward Operating Base In-a-Can

I used to do commercial telecom about 15 years ago, it doesn't take nearly as long as you think - probably a day for all ~200 of the data connectors, they snap into the power connectors - I'd guess probably another day or two for those. A Couple of weekends maybe, or some nights when I can't...

    Forward Operating Base In-a-Can

I would skip pulling in the data lines but I really want to be careful with shielding, make sure it's difficult to damage the data connections, and make sure data gets connected last (power first), so putting it in one connector is critical Mouser has them at $26 ($21.36 in my expected volume)...

    Forward Operating Base In-a-Can

Thanks all for the kind words. If I can share some of my knowledge to make others happy and get them closer to where they want to be, I'm happy to do so. The 4kW UPS for this project is going to have to take a little turn. I was originally planning on cramming it into the bottom 2U of the...

XM1027 - CUCV Crew Cab Build

This project is not dead, just haven't been talking about it. After getting the engine torn down, I was looking to move it to the local shop I had talked to in order to get the block checked out and any work done on it which was required. Shock of shocks... in the 6 months since I had last...

Recommendations for a fairly long drive

Glad to hear it, I think you'll feel better about keeping the wife happy, as well as not being stuck on the road somewhere. :)

Wanna do a serp belt conversion on my M1009 but keep 24v

( * might be easier to just leave it alone unless it's really broken * ) [thumbzup] The dual alternator setup is actually the most practical setup considering how GM built the truck - you already have a "spare" should your low-side (GND-12V) alternator go out, remember that in a military...

Wanna do a serp belt conversion on my M1009 but keep 24v

Right but OP was asking about the possibility of using just one 24V alternator - follow this train of posts: Charging a pair of series 12V batteries with a single 24V alternator and supplying both 24V loads and 12V loads is SPECIFICALLY what a Vanner/equalizer is for. Here re the two ways...

Wanna do a serp belt conversion on my M1009 but keep 24v

But a vanner/equalizer would do exactly what you want. One 24V alternator across two 12V batteries, even with 12V loads only pulling from one battery, it'll charge the 12v battery properly.

    Survival 109 build

I know what you mean, I'm 2 years into a 9 month truck build, no time in sight... :)

Can't wait to see how that array turns out, installation looks great! [thumbzup]
