Heavy Haul (55K) SC to MI

well, Harold - Been thinking about that myself (not that it actually has to DO anything to just be cool!) - but don't tell the wife...I have an absolute need and plan for it - no guess work here - done deal, all planned out, etc. (at least that is my story and I'm sticking to it). I cought a...

Heavy Haul (55K) SC to MI

Looking for a shipper/trucker to pick up a 55K truck (requiring RGN Trailer and probably weight permits) from Fort Jackson, Richland, SC to Chelsea, MI. GL Auction Pickup - EUC Sent (last one went super quickly in only days) - so I am anticipating easily within a month, possibly quicker. Any...

    School Me on Hemtt Wheels

I would think that you could as either rim is a 20" diameter and sounds like you plan to run the same tires all the way around (i.e. effective gear ratio remains the same). Not sure, but check the prices, the HEMTT rims may be cheaper than the Combat rims (but I have no info to support this)...

    832 dolly for containers

Whew! Mr QuickFarms - you are right - but even on the light side a bit! Went back a page and checked my own pictures (rocket science!) - sure enough: over 5500 lbs EMPTY. I guess they are stout little gals. Thanks for the heads up there.

    832 dolly for containers

due to the simplicity, I like WM's 109 conversion idea.

    832 dolly for containers

You're right WM - those are pretty cool. If you end up buying a complete 109 for the box - what the heck - sure beats hoisting the box and having to reanchor it. Seems way too straightforeward though....rims and tires are already the same size, frames are already the same height for the...

Nice Catch! Good for you, Dave.

    832 dolly for containers

As I said, I think the 5-ton flat bed and the 4-ton bolster trailers are essentially the same tailer suspension, axles, rims, tires - they may have just lowered the bolster's rating due to it being designed with an extendable drawbar. I have been told that these trailers share the same wheel...

WWII USMC Veteran Goes For A Tank Ride

Way to Go!! You make us proud, young man! Dave

    832 dolly for containers

OOOOO MDSA - You're Good! Yup - that one is a M989A1 (that replaced the M989 - totally different trailers, just intended for the same purpose). It is going to get a "sprucing up" and will be pulled by the 5-Ton HMTT (not HEMTT) Prototype in parades and such. She is a slow mover, though, as...

    832 dolly for containers

Hey Sail Bum, Possibly one of the 5-Ton Flatbed Trailers would work - would be easy to set up with the 4 "jack legs" at the corners and fairly close to the ground (I think the deck height is 32 or 36 inches). If you want to do a more "permanent" setup - could use a 4-ton bolster trailer which...

    List of Shippers??

Well - Here is my ameture take on U-Ship. I ended up using it for the load that I started this thread for in the first place. In the end, I didn't think that I would be able to find a shipper "quickly" to get the item out of the GL lot in the 10 days allotted and at a decent price. The GL rep...

    Quad 50 Gun Trucks

Awesome! That is such a cool thing when you can finally find such a unique person and then they agree to help you out like that! Good Luck, Dave.

HEMTT M984E1 Wrecker on the mend

Hey Stuart!! Does this mean that you and/or your wife would like to join our Support Group?? If you're still not done with that truck - I think you do need to join!! Just kidding - the work that you are doing is very cool - and then getting to use it to set the quad-50 (sniff, sniff - I'm...

HEMTT M984E1 Wrecker on the mend

Hey Ray! They are a cool vehicle. I have always had an attraction to the 8x8's. This is the fourth Military 8x8 I have owned. I did get this one off of Government Liquidation almost a year ago now. I was under the impression that 99.9% of them were being sent back to Oshkosh for strip and...

    Detroit Diesel Differences?

woops! had the intake and exhaust "valves/ports" backwards - thanks for the education! Kind of makes sense if I were to have thought about it a little more - pretty difficult to make jake exhaust brakes (common I believe on these for OTR) work without valves instead of ports (especially the...

    Detroit Diesel Differences?

Honestly, never had the chance to purposely listen to one (have probably been around a few without knowing it!) - they did not like the turbos? The original design had too close tollerances for "extra's"? Man - get one of these with a turbo or worse (better?) toys and they must have really...
