they make fiberglass ones or i think i have even seen aluminum ones before .but you can make them easy enough most wood has a crown to it already so if you pay attention to the crown you can get a peice that already has the bend in it so it wont take much work to trim it to fit:roll:

i know prices have gone up on everything but i would bet they still have the best deal i got mine super fast and was really happy with the quality but it doesnt hurt to price shop
i run xls on my truck they are a great all around tire. the goodyears are more of a sand- snow tire the zxls are best offroad but wear kind of fast on the road xls have the highest weight rating .and all are way better than ndts in all conditions :-D

good observation kieth j. i alway ran all my vents up high on all my offroad trucks since if you leave them mounted low and you get stuck in water when the diffs cool they will suck in water through the seals even though the vent seals under vacume if you run them up high and dont put a vent cap...

when the four wheel drive is not working try to turn the front drive shaft if it turns your problem is in the front axle.if it doesnt your problem is in the transfer case or air actuator.sounds like you are good to the switch so look at the hose going down to the actuator .if the drive shaft...
if your filter is getting clogged you have something coming apart in the trans from the sound of it you ran it low and burned up the direct clutches brake torque it in rev see if it slips if so you fried third and trans has to come out to fix it putting a new filter in a bad trans is like...
ok here it is there is two ways to do a trans the right way and the other is to keep doing it over and over again .so yes you need to worry about the hard parts unless you like to rip it out for practice.i could write a book on what you need to look for but i willl just touch on the most common...

problem is 99% of the time when we get stuck there isnt a huge i beam just sittng right over our trucks to hook to when i got stuck at haspin i had three deuces with snatch blocks and they all broke the shear pins like three times i had to dig the tires out before it would move .hmm surely...
