Air intake stack vents and bypassing axles

tell me about it. I got an infraction for this post....whatever that means makes me not want to do anything on SS when people (especially mods) become petty about things

Tactical Doc's M923 fuel preservative choice

good points that's why I have 2 sections...fuel storage (or if you're not using your truck much) and the fuel you use. but the best thing is to keep good fuel in it and keep the tank full as you said

Air intake stack vents and bypassing axles

that's from 2011 maybe others did something different in the 2 years since that post...always good to check more current things that my be happening or maybe new members want to review it. So, I pulled my thoughts from the research I did and put it together for new members and to check if my...

Air intake stack vents and bypassing axles

On the deuce it his that same vents as on the axles if I remember correctly. on the 5 tons they have a hoses going to the air intake already. you did the same thing but I think its still better to have it drain in another place because I have had oil drip into my air box and if it didn't leak...

that's why Im asking about venting the T case, trans and the 2 fuel vents to prevent oils going into the air box? Never got answers to this. But thanks for your very helpful input.

    Show us your Military Trailers

edit...had to check the year and if it was M1101 or M1102 84 M1101 US and I tow it on my chevy but will pull it w my 5 ton when I get an 2 inch hitch for it

Air intake stack vents and bypassing axles

if you water ford with neg pressure in the axle it could suck water into the axle.. The best thing is to have no pressure unless you want to water ford. If you bypass the axles you can do this by capping the end or if you have a fording kit you can just put it on and it will give you enough...

Tactical Doc's M923 fuel preservative choice

I called 2 Allison trans service mechanics and they said 15w40 is fine and would leave it because the trans is not electric. I'm not sure why everyone puts Dex3 in it. They said DEX3 is no longer recommended in Allison transmissions because it does something to the seals. 1 gal of motor kote is...

Air intake stack vents and bypassing axles

Didn't think about the cooling but I guess over time it would. There is no down side to venting them through a gas rated tube to the cab or air intake mushroom.

Air intake stack vents and bypassing axles

I believe they are supposed to work this way but I don't trust a 3 dollar piece to function when it gets dirty or clogged over time. And, the added pressure on the seals will make them leak sooner. I don't water ford much and when I go in the mud its usually no more than 2 or 3 feet. I think...

Air intake stack vents and bypassing axles

I have been doing some research regarding vents from axles, fuel tank, Trans and T case. First I will say I have a water fording kit on my M-923 (Marine truck). I vented the 3 axles up to the air intake cap. I know there is supposed to be pressure from the inside of the hub to prevent water...

Tactical Doc's M923 fuel preservative choice

Did some more research and this is what I came up with; Fuel tank; Keep tank full to decrease water build up Diesel Kleen with every tank full (approx. 8ml/gal) This is to clean the injectors and give you better gas mileage. Clear Diesel (approx. 10ml/gal) Add to tank once a year to clean out...

Why do some people hate military vehicles?

HOA are a bunch of old farts that have nothing better to do than annoy people. With that in mind, if its his property he can do what he wants. Also, it depends on how it looks. Usually if they are less than 1.5 ton trucks they can say much but bigger trucks will always be trouble with HOA. CUCV...

    If you had to choose....

Part of the fun is working on the trucks and meeting people in the area with these green machines. But, sometimes it can get expensive and frustrating. Try to meet up with people in your area and drive them both. You will find that driving the 5 ton is easier even if its 8k lbs heavier. But...

    If you had to choose....

One is 13,000 lbs and one is 21,000 lbs also you may need a CDL for the 5 ton if you want to drive in your state ... but check your state laws

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

might want to just buy a hitch already made that will fit the frame ... I think late 70s ford 350s have the same frame width curt makes class IV and V hitches 33 inch wide

    If you had to choose....

Good purchase and investment. Now its worth 10x more. The M923 is a better truck but they are more expensive to fix and run. The deuce is harder to get these days, easy to fix and less expensive. It's also multi fuel so you can use WMO. I have a Marine M923 but that's my bug out truck. It will...

    If you had to choose....

M35A2s are drying up. 5 tons will be on the market for several more years. I suspect the 5 tons will be going for cheap at the end of 2014 BTW a friend of mine has a stoner 63
