    Swollen glow plug removal

It would have made too much sense to have the GPs thread into an adapter that could be removed regardless if the GPs were swollen. Overpaid pencil pushers that never had a dirty hand.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Got some free firewood in it. Still three more double loads to get tomorrow.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Sorry for blending a 5 ton's use with the CUCV, but on the subject of "free firewood" here's what the sawmill gave me yesterday. Employees had been mixing stuff in the "block pile" so they wanted to clean it up and told me I can have it all. Looks like three more double loads left. Well...

Is $7000-$8000 too high for super clean M1009?

It depends on how sticky it is due to wetness. Wetter is actually better. It's that "starting to dry" crap that messes you up. Our soil is brown clay once you skim off the black top couple inches. You gotta take into consideration, I am not in flat cornfield "Ohio" as most envision. One time in...

Is $7000-$8000 too high for super clean M1009?

The HP and fast gain rpms of a 350 are priceless in 4-wheelin'. There is good reason for that engine's popularity. When the dirt is just sticky enough to plug up the tread on your tires (no matter how agressive the tread) you are pretty much driving on bologna skins. You need rpms to spin the...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Sort of. I am near the Upper Ohio River Valley. Kind of unpredictable here. Have seen accumilation in October and seen entire Winters with no snow.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Been getting these ready for Winter. All lubed and repairs made. Point "B" may be calling, and I will be there. Have chains for 5-ton this year. Slipped up on getting them for 37" HMMWV tires for the CUCV. While focusing so much on getting ready, I failed to get these put away for the Winter...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

It sure is a power robber! Very noticable difference! How much cash will one have in the conversion to an electric fan setup?

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

A bearing or loose bolts was my first guess too. Under load (1200 rpm+) it engages smoothly with no sound. Looking at it while running I have seen no movement (slop). I guess I will find out come May or June. I am still holding hope it was only partially engaging with the leaky shutterstat...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Not sure until I get to drive it in warmer weather. I bet it don't rattle now that the air can allow the valve function of the shutterstat to fully function.

    Ether can for M939 trucks?

I had to bump my ether this morning at 25° and it worked. Only gave it a one second shot since it wasn't so cold, yet cold enough for four 3-second cranks to not have it fire up.

    Humvee latest auction prices ?

They also seem to have runs of complete beaters so as to raise concern that they're running low and then they'll release some nice ones and then they go much higher than before the large sales of junkers. A lot of physchology goes into auctions.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Didn't yet check for rattle sound of fan at idle, but started it this morning while the temperature was in the mid 20s and the fan did not engage. At least I know that headache is over. I guess I will see if it makes the rattle sound at idle when engaged next year. Doubt it will get warm enough...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Just yesterday in mine I was pulling away from a light as it turned green and punched it and both tires lit up kicking the rear sideways. I was impressed. The 6.2 is slow pulling a load uphill but it still has plenty pep when asked.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

After eight hours the inner fenderwell is in and solid enough to stand on the batteries. I found some sheet steel that is fairly heavy gauge. Attached the steel in three pieces with sheet metal screws as often as I could with so much of the fender gone. Then I got the fenderwell up in and...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

That is a good call. The thought of making some way to attach the inner fenderwell to the outer had crossed my mind but I like the method you mentioned better. I hate the thought of struggling with that hood by myself anyway.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Looks like shutterstat worked correctly (at least in the stuck engaged when cold issue) after putting the new O-rings in. I can check that better this weekend when the cold blast hits. Last winter it was only stuck "on" when below 40°F, but it came on with a cold engine a few days ago when in...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I have had VWs made in Brazil, Mexico, and Germany. Never had a U.S. made one yet. They all seem to be of the same quality other than the Passat is a higher quality car than the Jetta, Fox, and Rabbits. Back on topic, I finally tore into the right inner fender well to replace it. Oh my, I...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Being a VW owner, I am always happy to see parts made in any European country when I read or open the box.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Lubed for the winter. Today the shutterstat gets new o-rings so the fan don't continually run when the engine is cold.
