    Entered Deuce in Car Show

Great Hobby Exposure I never seem to be a little concerned that when I take one of the trucks to an event that I/it might be a little bit out of place - but I am usually quite surprised with the reception (especially from elderly vets with huge volumes of history to tell - sometimes I don't...

    Had a interesting visitor

Its a Privilage Yes, the stories and memories (even just the look of appreciation without a word spoken) shared are humbling. I was never in the military, but I try to support those that have/are as often as I can. Last week my wife and I took the 5- ton cargo (avatar) to a benefit fund raiser...

    Project : Ammunition Trailer

Tire size........ I think the tires were Michelin XZL (I think) 395 something something on 22.5 inch rim. I did check the load rating just for kicks because of the rating of the trailer - they are beasties......at 120 psi they can take 9370 lbs each - more than enough for the 33000 lb total...

    Project : Ammunition Trailer

Well, made some time and went to Kansas to drag home the new HEAVY trailer. Hopefully, the plan is to use it w/ the HMTT or maybe someday even a production HEMTT (I know - I can dream though). Technically, this is supposed to be a "Heavy Expanded Mobility Ammunition Trailer". And let me tell...

New SE Michigan 5 Ton Owner, M54A2 W/W

Welcome fellow Michigander!! Looks like we share similar tastes in iron - not that anything OD wouldn't pretty much satisfy the urge! Yep, the guys are right, little bit of prep and paint and you're all set. Dave

    Water Purification unit

I've had a version of this vehicle for about 15 yrs. Mine is mounted on a M462C chassis (originally a cab and chassis only - long wheelbase). From what I have seen, most if not all of the designs used for this purpose have an "openable" driver's side of the van body. This is similar to but not...

    Deuce RPM Idling too Fast

Stupid question - but here it goes ....... is the hand throttle all the way back in toward the dash? Someone may have pulled it out by mistake.

    The 5-Ton HMTT Saga

Hi Bjorn, Boy the pictures sure help bring back the memories/piece history together. Looks like they used the same stock front bumper (with the 45 degree bevel on the bottom of the front face) and fabbed a back to it. Welding it up and effectively boxing it all in (for strength? for the...

    The 5-Ton HMTT Saga

Hey Cranetruck - Question: Does either of your rigs have large suspension travel limiting chains on the #2 and #3 axles? This truck does and I was just wondering if they were added maybe because of the suspension lift or the low tire pressure (control bounce?). Just curious. This one...

    The 5-Ton HMTT Saga

Thanks for putting up the pictures, Cranetruck. Looks like the mudflaps, bumperettes, Trailer accesssory "plate" below the frame and tail light assembly brackets on the sides were original after all. Excellent reference. I thought for sure that with the mudflaps hanging from simple angle iron...

    The 5-Ton HMTT Saga

Well, finally got a chance to do a little bit of wrenching on the HMTT this afternoon. Got the original flat aluminum grille off and out of the way. It was pretty mangled from lots of heavy handling and no brush gard so it had to be replaced anyway. Being as there is no radiator in the front...

    5 ton gears

hey gunit - not an expert, but as far as I know - the only swaps are for the diff gears out of a 5-ton Bridge Truck. I think at least the original series 5-tons (M54, etc.) had higher gears for the 14:00-20 NDCC's. there might be some gears avail nowdays with all of the axles that were used...
