Whatever you do, don't suck through a secondary filter. The restriction is too high.

The primary filter goes on the suction side of the lift pump, secondary filter goes on the discharge side of the lift pump.

If you disconnect the starter positive (just lift the battery cable at battery) and put 24V directly to the solenoid signal terminal it will push the gear out without turning the starter.
