    Help identify noise

Did a test, 45 degrees outside. all readings are from truck's instruments. cold start: 15 seconds to register oil pressure. 5 more seconds to oil pressure of 90 psi waited 30 seconds increase RPM to 1250, pressure remained 90. wait 30 seconds. shut off engine, turned electricity back on...

    Help identify noise

Dang you worked on that in the c-c-c-old s-s-s-snow!!! It was worth a shot, with the low pressure. I'm sorry it was not the fix. Well I guess the ersatz P*S MAG cartoon I made isn't needed, but here it is anyway. Sorry, I just couldn't resist after looking at the TM drawing.

    Check valve for oil filters?

That is a good point. It might be interesting to see how long it takes for the oil to drain back out of the filters, hot and cold. Looking at the diagrams, it would have two paths: 1. to drain backwards through the oil pump and this should be rather slow if the pump is good. 2. to drain...

    Check valve for oil filters?

I''ll have to find a 100-120PSI spare oil guage. There are some water and air guages at the hardware store but i don't really trust them with oil for some reason.

    Check valve for oil filters?

The opening is a 3/8 NPT, the square head requires a 7/16" square socket (Thanks Bjorn). I wonder how much pressure there would be required to at least crack the "15PSI minimum" piston cooling valve. I have my doubts that once this opens, the pressure would rise much higher with a small electric...

    Check valve for oil filters?

Hey Bjorn, so you sure the little port there is the pre-filter? That wotld make it far easier than trying to reach the 1/2" plug. Volume would be low but I am patient..

    generator testing and wet-stacking

Since I am no diesel expert but merely a knowledge-hungry acolyte, I will quote. These descriptions are concurrent with my beliefs on wet-stacking, which is simply a conditiion where the engine load is so light that excess fuel is unburnt and can collect in the exhaust system (less common with...

    generator testing and wet-stacking

Found a cheap-o way to do a full load-bank test on a large generator. This should be done anyway a couple times a year especially if the set runs at low loads and is subject to wet-stacking. The solution is stove-top elements and oven broiler elements! these things are rated in the...

    Check valve for oil filters?

Does anyone have a spare oil pan plug from the main sump? I want to experiment, and will have to drill and tap one for a fitting to be a source of oil for a prelube. I want to take from the pan and give to the 1/2" pipe fitting, if possible. This is unless someone has a lazier source of oil to...
