Outstanding truck DD. Very clean. I would love to know more about those wheels (you already discussed the tires).
I've always wondered how difficult it would be to do a major repair (like this) on a US Made truck in a foreign country. Did you find it difficult to get parts over there? If...
JR, Welcome to SS!
$3600 is a great deal for a running deuce...especially if it's in as good of shape as yours looks from the pictures you have posted.
The other one may have been a better deal (or not) depending on condition and equipment (maybe more options, but it also could have a weak...
Welcome to the '88 club! ..and of course Welcome to SS! This is the place for understanding your truck.
What's that picture on the dash below the warranty plate?
Eric,
Sad to see you go.
Just so you know, I have that winch mounted and running on the deuce...thanks for all your help in making that work out for me.
I wish you well...
RE: M62A2
I agree with Jakonta. I have an LDS 465-1A in my deuce...the turbo is not loud at all, and it does not have a wastegate mechanism. Note that it is *not* a "C" or "D" turbo...something different.
See this thread for some pics of a crated LDS (SasquatchSanta) and some of mine in the...
OK,
I am replacing the winch cable and clevis end on my winch (standard Gar Wood M-44 series winch) with new stuff. Since it's just as easy to order 10 as it is to order 1, I would be happy to order a few extra units for other SS members who might be interested.
Here's what I'm getting:
250'...
OK, I think most of us know that the stock winch cable length on the M-44 series trucks is 200'.
Is it true (or untrue) that up to 250' can be put on the spool if wound correctly?
Swap gauges and sensors from both trucks and see if the problem follows the sensor/gauge or stays with the truck...that will tell you if you really have an overheating problem or just a bum sensor/gauge. If the problem follows the swap, swap back the gauges and that will tell you if it's the...
This is a very interesting thread...I loved the re-babbeting process outlined on that site...very cool stuff. Real craftsmen.
As far as the oil filter, I think your only hope is a bypass filter...not the best of options, but at least it's something. Maybe plumbed in with an electric pump to...
Yes..free!
Standard front bumper off of an M35A2. No idea what year.
Comes with a pile of rusty hardware (may not be complete, recommend new hardware rather than re-using) and the (4) mounting brackets (non-winch style). Does not come with clevis hooks or clevis mounts.
Relatively...
I think this is basically how the A3 winches work...same winch, but with a hyrdo motor on it instead of the PTO (powered off of the engine of course).
Maybe some research there would point you in the right direction...

Read the whole thread and the other linked one...there's even the place to purchase the part. Make sure you get the installation tool as well.
Remember that when starting these engines (in a B-29) it was SOP to have a full fire crew on standby near the plane in the somewhat likely event that something caught fire...lots of raw fuel pouring out of the exhaust when these things are cranking over.
These engines were beasts...in every...
