    Pucker factor of 10 ++++

    Wow..thanks Doghead. Something this important I believe would warrant some loctite as well as a lock washer.

    Finally I have aquired a M35

    Wow...very nice! Love the HIAB cranes. Those Canadian MLVWs are automatics with power steering and hydraulic winches if memory serves...very nice. Most came with arctic kits and fuel-fired heaters. Good to see that they are still in-use by the military up there.

    Pucker factor of 10 ++++

    Just so we're clear here...can someone either get a snapshot of the bolts in question, or maybe find an exploded diagram and point out the exact bolts? I really want to run right out and check mine too...but want to make sure I know what I'm looking for exactly.

    I got one!

    Firstly, welcome to SS! Also, Congrats on the new toy! You're going to have a blast with it... Now, on to your brake light issues: Are you sure you have the light switch in the correct position for the brake lights to come on (not in black-out mode)? Make sure the switch is set to...

    Found a great video on youtube from fording kit testing

    Yep...an oldie but a goodie..."Eager beaver" film. Not easy keeping a gasser running under water...

    Manifold paint

    Send it off and have it jet-hot coated (Ceramic) inside and out. It'll stay whatever color you make it (chrome-like up to 1700 deg, black/blue/cast grey up to 1300 deg). It will also reflect heat into the exhaust stream and not soak up as much into the metal of the manifolds. I've done this...

    Easy question re lug nuts

    OK...the capnuts (inner on a dual wheel) go on at 400-425...the stud nuts go on at 325-355 (outer wheels, front wheels). *whew* I was worried...I just bought a torque stick rated at 350lbs/ft for my impact wrench. Since I am singling mine out, I will have basically "front" stud nuts all...

    Easy question re lug nuts

    Where did you see 400-450 lbs/ft? What TM/Chapter/Page?

    NATO slave connector cap needed...

    Thanks Poccur...any help greatly appreciated.

    Lug and bed bolt sizes?

    You're looking for the size of the head so you can get the right socket to remove the nuts/bolts?

    Gear oil compatability

    I think it's important to note here that the only reason I would run the GL-5 (MT-1) stuff in my tranny is for convenience ...I don't want to buy different lubes (I'm lazy). There is no specific benefit of GL-5 running in a gearbox...it's made for differentials with high pressure gears (hypoid...

    Winch operation?

    Please do go through those manuals. Improper winch operation can *kill you* quickly and horribly. There is a section on the winch operation in the -10 manual...near the middle if memory serves.

    Gear oil compatability

    I assume you're talking about the gear lubes...You'd need to filter it well (there will be microscopic metal shavings in there) and dilute it well, but it should work. The important thing is to thin this stuff out well...it's pretty thick stuff, and typically contaminated with all kinds of...

    Gear oil compatability

    ...oh, and I did see a post about the Carquest GL-5. Current thinking is that it's made by Valvolene and packaged for CQ, and should have the MT-1 rating (as their offering does).

    Gear oil compatability

    Must have the MT-1 rating to be yellow-metal compatible. I was trying to say that almost all of the new stuff will have this rating as it's pretty much all that is manufactured anymore. There is a lot of old info out there that has persisted and become muddled with the new (as the starting...

    Gear oil compatability

    GL4 is the "official" replacement for GL-1 (did not have as much of the high-pressure additives at GL-5, which caused the yellow-metal incompatibility). GL-5 with MT-1 rating is compatible with GL-4. I just purchased 5 gallon pails of "GL-4/GL-5 MT-1" 80/90wt from Costco. Basically multi-use...

    Charging old batteries

    After reading this thread, I decided to go with the Chargetek 500. Ordered on Monday...had it on Tuesday (wow, fast shipping...turns out batterystuff.com is in Grants Pass, Or...just down I5 from here). Installed yesterday and is working great. I mounted mine behind the passenger seat in the...

    Need 5 Ton winch parts.

    You could save the case by using a helicoil...or just drilling/tapping the hole one size larger. I would go with the former. If you're really talented with a TIG welder, you could weld up the inside of that hole and re-tap. Clearly you'll need a new cover plate (or just make a new one out of...

    WISH ME LUCK

    I assume you've seen the "great list" sticky: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=143 Here's my 2cents Flares, road triangles, gloves, charged mobile phone, ear protection, phone numbers for heavy duty wrecker service along the way, temporary license (if...

    M35A2 oil fill plugs

    Right tool for the right job: http://tinyurl.com/5lw78v This is the cheapest I could find this socket set online. Seems like a decent price for tools that you'll probably use many times in the future. Plus there's less BS factor by having the right tool (less time working on your project...
