What has PVT pyle done to my steering wheel?

Fortunately, replacement steering columns can be had fairly cheaply at the recycle yard. You could stay with a stock style wheel or put in a tilt column.

Wanted... pics of rear bumper tyre mounts?

Well, I don't think mine qualifies. It's inside. And I carry TWO spares, but here ya go... For the drivers side mount, I took a spare mount, cut it in four places and rotated them until they were where I wanted them. Then welded them back together. Works great. Looks factory.

    New guy with build ideas/questions

Yeah, the axle swap is in the plans for one of my M1009's as well. I've got rust to take care of and a roll cage to fab... THEN I'll take on an axle swap. What gears are you going with? I'm think 3.73's - meaning yeah, I'll have to replace the carrier, but that will hopefully give me what...

Well...the tranny went last night in my M1009

Well, I've got to say SOMETHING here. I've used Aamco. I had a tranny snap it's tailshaft on my M1028A2. It was in PA. I live in Denver. I had a buddy of mine driving it back. It wasn't his fault. It was missing a support for the NP205 tranny. I PAID just about $2200 for my rebuild. But...

1028 starter bolt question ( kinda)

UH, I'm a little confused. WHY would you want to put studs in place of the correct start bolts? The correct bolts are less than $10 per and when properly installed - you do have a torque wrench, right - you SHOULD NOT need to do anything else. Having said all that I keep a spare pair in each...

    Drivers side rear wheel stuck!

coleman4130, If you haven't gotten it figured out, give me a call. I live in Denver and would be willing to drive up and help if necessary. I'll send you a PM with my phone number. Don't let WESTY get to yah. Oh, here in Colorado, we've got a great MV club. I'd gladly introduce you around...

    lincoln city shooting

I have two 'tell tales' of when things are going down hill fast... 1) Career politicians start retiring in large numbers - IE they don't run again, because they don't want to be in power when things go bad, thinking they won't be blamed if they are not physically in office... 2) Law...

    M1009 got hit this morning

I gotta say, I LOVE THE 'U' on the back of your truck. Glad you found the bumper. I HAVE ONE, but I live in Denver and even if I gave it to you for free, the shipping would have been a killer. Glad you found one. These parts are slowly drying up. Snag as much as you can now because five or...

    new shocks; what next?

I've owned several Suburbans in this body style. I went to great lengths to ADD a rear sway bar. That's HOW MUCH DIFFERENCE once can make. DO NOT remove the rear sway bar. Replace the rubber holding them in place. I can't suggest either, as I've used both with no negative effects. And...

what branch/unit did your cucv serve with?

one of my M1009's came from Ft Riley, Ks, 166th Av Bat ... They are now down in Texas at Ft Bliss... Not sure which unit the M1028A2 came from. It appears to have been a National Guard truck. Which unit is still a big question mark.

    vehicle security

Yes, especially if after FINDING the body on the ground YOU CALL THE COPS ON YOURSELF. If you do a 'man trap' as oldMan99 called it, and some one trips it you have two options. 1) dial 911 - and all that entails 2) S3 AND it's NOT illegal in every state. Most states that consider it illegal...

    new shocks; what next?

Have you replaced the tires? I thought I was having all sorts of suspensions problems. But I needed a new set of rubber and once that was installed, all the other problems seem to disappear. Just a thought.

Did any one here win the M1010 from Ft Riley, KS?

I figured about $4k... Once you add in all the fees and taxes you will pay for it, that's pretty much going rate. THEN you gotta drop a bunch more collecting all the things that went with it. IF you are lucky the vehicle itself won't need much work.

    2nd fuel tank installation 1985 M1028

Back in 'the day', the Chevy's came with a 't-fitting' that allowed you to switch from one tank to the other. When you did that it changed the fuel flow from one tank to the other. Then you just flipped a switch that changed which tank was being read on the dash fuel gauge. The BEST thing...

Did any one here win the M1010 from Ft Riley, KS?

OK, did any one on SS win the M1010 at Ft Riley, KS? 2310 - Passenger Motor Vehicles at Government Liquidation Went for about $3400 plus the fees and T,T&L... Call it about $4k registered and inspected, but that's just a guess. 19k miles. Looked to be in great shape. So, did anyone here...

    batter cables

Many auto parts stores will sell SOME of the cables you need. Others you will need to make your self or ask if they know any one that makes them. They are not hard to make, but I've got a guy that basically charges $10 per cable plus the materials and I always go for good materials.

The RIGHT way to install a Solargizer...

I really like it. Now you gotta paint the four bolts where you mounted them under the hood. Maybe a little over spray on the cable, but only a little. Love what you did. Smart about throwing the installation to one side. thx for showing us...

    cucv tow bar $35

OK, I gotta give the guy a break. But realize as a retired, degreed gunsmith, THE LAST PERSON I EVER WANT TO MEET is my customer's, widow's ATTORNEY. You know what I mean?

    The m1029 wireing project

I've been looking for one of those. Is it the 6.2L diesel? You should be able to contact one of the aftermarket suppliers that support this site and I would imagine they could help you. Saturn Surplus or Boyce or Memphis Equipment all come to mind. I THINK they are all sponsors of this site.
