    Thanks are due...

Must take the time to thanks LongueCarbine, zout, and AMGeneral in their efforts in moving two LMTV rims and tires from Louisiana to Georgia to North Carolina to Virginia over the past several months. The Steel Soldiers Freight Service works, as long as you're patient, and I want to thank these...

Total brake failure during a panic stop

That happened to NewMVGuy at the first Rausch Creek rally in Oct. 2007. It's not common, but it happens occasionally. Nothing you can do to prevent it other than check your brakes once a year. It is also one of the reasons I choose to resistance brake with the engine and downshifting. Takes...

    M915/M916 with wrecker bed?

Anyone here ever think about putting a 5-ton wrecker setup in the rear end of a M915 or M916 tractor? Just got a brainfart about that idea, it might not be as rugged as a M816 wrecker, as the frame is not doubled up, but might make a road tractor a little more useful for those who have a -915...

Can I use an XM1061E1 trailer to haul a vehicle?

I towed a laundry trailer with all the laundry equipment on it, 10K pounds, behind the deuce, and it was SLOW going. And braking made me feel a bit nervous. Your trailer is the same, and with the vehicle on it, it will weigh the same as well. IMHO, get a 5-ton to tow your trailer and truck...

    PRC-77 Freq Q...

The PRC-68 series of radios, including the PRC-68, -68A, -68B, PRC-126, PRC-128 and PRC-136, are all decent platforms for a handheld 6-meter band radio. However, one drawback is that these radios use crappy batteries that require a special charger to service. One solution is to get the...

    PRC-77 Freq Q...

PRC-77 is 30 to 75.95 MHz. The freqs you need are WAY higher, in the 2-meter band. There is no way to convert the PRC-77 easily to use these freqs. Best bet is to get a standard 2-meter radio and play with that. But you'll HAVE to get a ham license to play with either of these.

Here's some pics of the deuce that showed up at Rausch Creek last month on 16.00x20s. It looked...topheavy...

    question on Holmes wrecker

Does anyone here have experience using a Holmes-style wrecker? Not sure the mechanics of an older tow truck, having grown up almost entirely in the rollback tow truck era. Can anyone explain to me the purpose of the black-strap looking thing that hung down in the rear of the older tow trucks...

Last 10 Ton from Beyel Bros.

Great save, Dirt. Another one that will at least be saved in one form or another. What is it with 5- and 10-ton trucks and goofball front bumpers? I've seen 8" pipe, railroad track, and now huge I-beams.

correct pin-out of military trailer receptacle?

Does someone have a pin-out of the standard military trailer receptacle, showing the pin numbers and locations, and what each pin is used for? I have to re-wire the trailer receptacle on the M37, and I have nothing to go by.

    Oil Based Paint as fuel?

Yes, too much filtering involved. We've been over this several times, even varnish and wood stain is too cruddy to use as fuel. Not worth it. I think the recycling centers may be using it in waste oil furnaces, which aren't as sensitive as truck engines.

M915 series handling on steep hills

Anyone here have a M915/916/920/etc tractor that can tell me how these rigs handle going up and down hills? Lotsa up and downshifting? I understand how most big rigs work with the manual transmissions, just curious how these larger MVs do with a load with its semi-automatic tranny.

Look what I found in my M101.

Oh, they looked in the back of the trailer - and they saw more junk they didn't need. If it ends up in the DRMO yard, the people there have to assume it's excess. They may check to see if any controlled items are back there (like ammo, weapon mounts, sensitive gear, etc.), but if not, out it goes.

    M813 and S250

I think any shelter of any camping size would require either running it mounted in the bed with no cover, or extending the cargo cover staves. You might also consider the S-788 shelter, that normally mounts on the HMMWV. It is a little bigger, might afford you a slight bit more room inside...
