Here's a few pics I took with my phone... My girlfriend took more / better pictures but I haven't gotten them from her yet...
At first, I cringed at the thought of a ton of kids touching and crawling through my truck all day, but I realized they couldn't hurt it, and after a little while I...
Here's a video Jim (TheRecorder) made of our trip to (at, really) the Miramar Air Show. We had a blast, it's a shame more people weren't interested or able to go with us. The Air Show staff treated us really well... VIP treatment really - access to the pilots cabana, free food, free fuel (they...
All these stories are in line with my experience with Michelin tires in general, they like to fail when they get a little old. Michelins over 10 years old or any with cracking regardless of age, I want no part of. A friend of mine worked on Crown tandem school busses... His school district...
I'm developing a great dislike for these Spicer transmissions.... Either they are junk, or they don't like 90wt or 80w-90 oil. I can't think of any other reason why so many would fail with so few miles on them. I'm on my second transmission.... I filled it with Chevron Synthetic Manual...
You'll want to pull the glow plugs and use a compression tester in there (glow plug compression adapters are available out there or you can make one from an old plug) to make sure before you start dropping money on the fuel system, but my 1009 showed similar behavior when it's injector pump...
Hi Group,
The 2010 Planes of Fame Airshow in Chino was awesome, we had such a great time from convoying there and back, to talking to 1000s of fans about MVs and our hobby. To display at the Miramar airshow is going to be incredible. If Jim and I are the only ones again, so be it, but you...
Hmm, I don't know how that link got corrupted, but here it is.....

....Or we can co-ordinate here on this thread.
I suppose the co-ordinator for our convoy is "me", but my deuce's transmission failed and...
Low oil pressure at idle is normal.... 5-7 psi when hot, but at highway speed a healthy 92 series should be at 50 psi (that's the relief valve setting unless it's been modified). My 71 series runs at 60 psi. The Spinner has an "idle cut-out valve" so you won't starve your engine for oil at...
Wow, that must be some pretty good oil! I guess as long as it's formulated for air cooled engines.... I still don't trust it though, I'm stubborn. aua
Jon
Definitely! 2-stroke oil is what I use too... It's cheap, readily available, and outperforms most of the commercial diesel fuel additives. I use a 200:1 ratio, which is 1 quart per 50 gallons on the deuce. On my M1009, I use 1/2 quart per fill-up.
If it's an air-cooled engine, I'd stay away from multi-grade oils.... The higher oil temperatures found in air cooled engines tend to cook off the viscosity modifying polymers of a multi-grade - aka viscosity breakdown; this may be the reason for the rare oil spec, instead of the usual "OE/HDO"...
How often the Spinner needs to be cleaned depends on how "dirty" your engine gets... Some engines put more soot into the oil than others, then there's age and driving habits, etc.
I haven't cleaned my Spinner yet, but I'm going to when I change the oil before the West Coast Convoy to Tower Park...
I don't think vibrations or off road driving will affect it, due to the gyroscopic effect... Jarring would try to slow down the spinning, but I don't think it would make any difference in performance. Spinner's tech support was very helpful to me, you could ask them to make sure.
The Spinner...
There are a number of OTR truckers, sponsored by Spinner I'm pretty sure, who have gone several hunderd thousand miles with only oil analysis, topping off, Spinner cleanings, and full-flow filter replacement.
So far, I'm very enthusiastic about mine!
Jon
Chuck-
That is interesting data.... I have learned something new. But I don't think it means that 50wt motor oil or a 50wt "transmission oil" are interchangeable with SAE 80/90 gear oil.... The additive package would be different, with the SAE 90 having viscosity modifiers and extreme pressure...
I was disappointed to see the made-in-Mexico sticker when I went to install mine..... But I will hold them to their warranty! When they get tired of replacing batteries and losing customers, their only choice will be to improve quality. But knowing they're made in Mexico, I would not buy them...
Jim lives in Corona off I-15 at Indian Truck Trail. He was planning to meet me at my house in Hesperia, but to save time I could meet at the hwy 395 exit. I'll send this thread to Jim so maybe you guys can coordinate meeting somewhere down the hill...
The 4th deuce is coming from Lancaster...
