I love it, Will. I think we were talking about this at the last Fontana run weren't we? After doing all this work on my deuce, I've decided I don't like Gillespie paint's weathering characteristics... it's fading too quickly for my taste, and I don't want to repaint every three years. It's...
I agree, and my opinion is that auction links should be allowed to be posted, period. These links provide relevant material for group discussion. If I am bidding on a truck, why shouldn't I be able to post up to get the opinion of others? To restrict me because you don't want to drive up the...
I've got a 6-71 in my M52 tractor... It's a very tight fit! It would be better in an 800 series, in place of a Cummins. There's a thread about it here:

I can't imagine a 6-71 in an...
Those are my thoughts exactly. What a story!
I think I'd have made a big deal out of this... demands for supervisors, complaints filed, etc. ....But then again, if I were packing some sort of "heat" that I perhaps should not have been packing.... maybe I'd have "played ball", too. 8)

Hey Guys,
Cool pics! I knew Will's daughter was taking some, but I didn't realize there were that many...
Breaking down those tires was a lot of work, but fun and very rewarding... Educational, too. Huge thanks to Will - I'd never have had the guts to try that by myself. Also, I think it...
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Deuce engines
Well, I know my White engine will never fail me... 'cause it knows that if it does it will be plucked out and unceremoniously dropped in the dirt, and it's replacement will be a screamin' 4-banger painted alpine green. 8)

Assuming the two engines have the same model number, and ignoring potential differences in wear on used engines, I'm not aware of any difference between manufacturers - Hercules, Continental, or in my case, White. They were all built to the same spec and parts are interchangeable.
It would be...
New tires are finally here! Alan at Berg Tire did not disappoint. After nearly a year, this project is finally coming to an end... I should be rolling by the middle of next week! More pics when I get the tires on.

Did Will tell you guys that I saw you all convoy past while I was at work? I was on a train, coming down Cajon Pass when my conductor says, "Hey look, a deuce... Is that like yours?" We were on the stretch of track next to Old Route 66 between Cleghorn Rd. and Kenwood St., where the road is...
Sorry FT, but it ain't gonna happen! Think more along the lines of 4-53 if you want a Detroit.
I've got a 6-71 in my 5-ton M52, and it didn't really fit there either, as you can see by the pic...
It's a tight fit on length (the 6th cylinder is into the firewall, there is a custom made...
Thanks Guys! I'll get it right next time. I probably went over 50 lb. ft. because I was trying to "make the wheel's rotation bind".
Sermis - I didn't bother to put the lock tab washer and outer nut on, since I knew I had ruined the seal, but otherwise it's assembled correctly. It's clear now...
Thanks for the feedback, guys...
Here's some pics - The first shows a ruined seal still in place behind the adjusting nut. The second shows the keyway after the adjusting nut is removed, and you can see the sheared off key tab in the slot.
As you can see the spindle, keyway, threads, etc. are...
Hi Group,
I just ruined three brand new outer seals for my rear axle. I am trying to adjust the wheel bearings, per the TM which says to tighten the adjusting nut while rotating the wheel until the wheel's rotation starts to bind, then back off 1/8 turn. The outer seal's key-piece is shearing...
Most definitely, yes! My company pays it's annual profit sharing by the end of the month, and I'm going to use a chunk of it to buy 10 brand new tires... By the middle to end of February I should have everything back together and I'll be itching to put some miles on it.
Jon
No, that is not correct. You do not need a CDL to drive a deuce in California. Because of the third axle, you need a NON-COMMERCIAL CLASS B license.
Why does everyone associate a Class B with a CDL? It's not the same. A Class B is no more commercial than a motorcycle license.
