    Tire flat!!

Leaks in these tires is almost always the grommet under the valve stem, not the o-ring. The grommets are typically all dry-rotted that I've seen. Also, the brass nut on the valve stem is supposed to be torqued to 45 - 60 Lb-Ft. Mine were all finger tight when I broke the wheel down. The TM...

Installed the M66 and convoy lights (pics)

You should go ahead and install a cab reinforcement plate now, regardless if you intend to fire from it. I have a deuce with an M66 ring and I have a cab plate installed by AM General and it's amazing how much the cab flexes and groans while driving. There is a lot of weight up there and a lot...

DEUCE:Metal 'clacking' sound in 5th gear high/low only??? Any ideas what it might be?

When everything is copacetic, there should not be any noise coming from the transmission other than normal gear whine. A deuce is so loud that any transmission noise you can hear is not good news.

M109 oil pressure gauge not working

Before you do anything, I would remove the sending unit and screw in a gauge to make sure you actually have oil pressure.

DEUCE:Metal 'clacking' sound in 5th gear high/low only??? Any ideas what it might be?

That sounds like the sound mine had in 5th gear when I retrieved it from Fort Indiantown Gap. A few weeks after a horribly long drive back to Georgia, the transmission started shelling teeth from 5th gear. I got a takeout to replace it. Mine made the most noice in 5th gear when I let up on...

    DRT A3. Theories anyone ?

What you did is what the military should have done. It looks like a very good professional installation.

    DRT A3. Theories anyone ?

It's possible that the fuel line has deteriorated and is collapsing internally, sealing itself off. I've seen this happen and the exterior of the fuel line still looks perfect. I would try bypassing the flexible fuel line to see if this is the problem. Also, open the drain cock on the bottom...

    M35A3 Owners unite

Replacing the fuel filter is straightforward. You will likely need to rod out the drain cock on the bottom as they tend to fill up with crud. I rod mine out, open it and then crank over the engine to let clean diesel flow out. The check valve that plugs up first is located at the elbow where...

    M35A3 Owners unite

My A3 always starts easily, less than one revolution by the starter unless the temperature is very cold. I would first change the fuel filter and clean the check valves before proceeding further if you haven't already done so. These CAT 3116 engines start and run well.

    Breakfast at 57th Fighter Group

I just rolled in at 9:30 PM. After leaving the 57th, I stopped by my daughter's house in Avondale Estates and helped clean up. I ended up with a very large load of scrap lumber, rock, etc. in my A3 and carried it home to be delivered to the dump later. Had a great time at 57th, but ate way...

Won a M85-100 today. Gary Caines, where are you

Sorry, I didn't see your post. I've been working in Valencia, California and just got back. As I mentioned in my PM, I don't have any experience with the laundry units or that particular trailer. I do have an MEP-003A mounted on an M116A1 trailer and I love it. It has been very useful during...

    Experince with Sparta WI location

I recovered a truck in Sparta. I flew in and took a taxi to Ft McCoy with my suitcase and tools. I had previously made arrangements for a wrecker to move the truck off-site if I couldn't get it running. Fortunately, I didn't need it. I have dealt with GL at a lot of different sites, and all...

    Georgia Steel Event in July?????????????

Chris, Everything Carnac stated is true, except I think El Paso is hotter! Anyway, there are several guys on SS that live in close proximity to Buford that might want to come, since it won't cost much in fuel. I would go ahead and pick a tentative date and location. If the timing is right and...

Load from Portsmouth, VA to North Gerogia

I just won an 800 Lb bandsaw from GL and need to get it from Portsmouth, VA to North Georgia or somewhere close where I can pick it up.

I don't know where you can buy a replacement, but are you sure it's bad? The check valve is a simple device and I was able to clean mine and make it look like new, although it took about 30 minutes of picking out the crud.

    road speed on a mk48

Normally, flat spots in tires will work themselves out after driving awhile. I've noticed that my M35A3 has a lot of wheel hop from flat spots on the 14.5 X 20 Michelins if I haven't driven it in a few weeks. It seems to take about 25 miles for them to smooth out. If I drive it at least once...
