Welcome to Steel Soldiers! You've come to the right place. The first thing I would recommend is to read the TMs. Specifically, look at the electrical schematic. The wiring on these trucks is relatively simple and your problem should be simple to figure out. However, your most critical...
I wouldn't fool around with trying to rebuild the PP. You can find NOS 3-finger pressure plates very cheap. Ditto on resurfacing the flywheel. If the pilot bearing is worn, I'd replace it as well. If the crankshaft seal was leaking I'd replace it as well.
I found that the RAPCO cans tend to drip paint, so I wrap a rag around the can just under the top to catch the drips from leaking nozzles. If you ever use the Gillespie paint in a sprayer, make sure you thin with Xylene. If you do, the paint from the rattle cans will be a perfect match.
The only fire I've had in an MV was a tire fire. It ended up being extinguished by a water extinguisher by the FD. Water extinguishers are preferable for tire fires.
The chance that 100% of any metal in the pan has already come out of the pan is small in my opinion. You can only feel a small area with your finger in the hole. I would recommend both cutting open the oil filters and dropping the pan. This is easy to do and could save you some real grief...
I had one, but sold it before i got it running. They are very noisy due to a high run rate of 3600 RPM. All of the engine parts are still available new from Robin / Subaru. Do you have a manual? If you don't I can send you one on CD if you PM your address. The alternator is made by Baldor...
Sorry to hear about your alternator. Now would be a good time to check the alternator bracket for cracks since your alternator is dismounted. A3 alternator brackets tend to crack and fail.
The problem with speed in the A3 is the CAT 3116 engine. Continuous operations with the stock 14.5 R20 tires limits the top speed to about 45 mph, whereas the A2 will do 55 with the 900 X 20 NDTs. The Allison 1545 transmission was designed to use Dexron III transmission fluid. The military used...
I'm willing to work the Registration / Front Gate. Just let me know what times you need me. I plan on arriving sometime mid-Wednesday and staying through Sunday.
Welcome to the site. You have a nice looking truck there. You'll have a lot of fun with it. Keep us posted on what you do with it. Looks like you need a new headlight though. For some reason, my A3 loses headlight bulbs regularly. They don't seem to last nearly as long as on my A2, which...
Be careful assuming that the air leaks are from the large O-rings. Although leaking O-rings are possible, 100% of the air leaks on my A3 were caused by leaking grommets on the valve stems. It is a bad idea to break down an A3 wheel and not replace the valve stem grommets. I would recommend...
You can almost always get insurance ahead of time without difficulty because most states have a law that says your current insurance coverage will automatically apply for a certain period of time when you buy another vehicle. However, definitely check with your insurance company since your...
Why do you think the problem is ignition and not fuel? In post #5 you mentioned that the engine ran for 5 minutes and then died when it was idling. This means that you had spark at that time. I would suspect a fuel problem at this point, but I would first eliminate some potential ignition...
As Gimpy said, it could be the governor. I had to replace the governor on my A3. I also had to replace the air dryer.
Is your pressure gauge reading zero pressure while air is being released? Is the low air buzzer on when it is releasing air? If so, it is likley the priority valve. I had...
