Noticed that you run on 100% "homemade biodiesel". I found that when full power was needed from the engine during my 8x8 tow, the use of veggie oil/bio diesel reduced the power somewhat. It was especially noticable in the hills.
How about draining the system and trying 100% petro diesel for a while?
So how was it fixed?
Had a similar problem while on the road in Missouri six weeks ago. With the help from this list, we diagnosed the problem as a clogged injector. Problem was solved by replacing the injector (leak around the fitting on top of hydraulic head) and the apparently failed...
Right or wrong, I have seem the plastic loom used on the FMTV trucks near the rear composite lights. The image below is from the engine compartment, which I havn't seen in real life, but the manual indicates that they are used. TM 9-2320-392-10-1
Yes Will, it's on the "sucktion" side, the in-tank fuel pump actually supplies the fuel to IP via this strainer.
Because it is manually operated from time to time, I assumed that there are no parts that need to be replaced.
Like some primary filter elements for the deuce, which are cleanable...
Found on the XM757, this fuel strainer takes the place of the primary fuel filter.
Does anybody know if it's good for life or if it has a replacable element of some kind? Don't want to take it apart if not needed.
The handle turns and the drain works. As with the other fuel filters on this...
The air and fuel lines are copper covered with cotton wire loom.
This loom did not survive very well, especially where leaking gear oil has soaked it. It's rotten and crumbles when handled.
Thinking about replacing it with black plastic loom which is split, so the connections won't have to be...
Another feature of this vehicle is the watertight cab. The image shows the Canon type connectors used to feed wires through the aluminum floorboards from the dash area.
So, you'll be testing this on your trip East, I presume. I don't have a radio in my deuce yet, only the CB (plus the VIC-1) at this time, but if you are able to stop by we can compare notes.
Did you cannibalize a cx-4723 cable for the interface?
Glad you made it back okay! Not too many MV's out there at any given time, on my recently completed trip just about the only other vintage MV I saw on the road was Jon's deuce when we convoyed to Barstow from his place in Hesperia, CA.
Of course, Devin drove his to Ventura from Santa Clarita...
A side note here.
When I replaced the axle seals on my deuce several years ago, I found all of the nuts used to secure the spindle (on the twelve studs in the image above) to be of inferior grade.
Several were so soft that the threads had been stripped. Scary!
Sent one of the remaining nuts to...
Well that floor Devin was working on when I visited a month ago looked great. Good work Devin! Guess it deserves a nice couch.
Image below shows his deuce. Good luck on the tires!
The low pressure valve, attached with two screws to the firewall has a Tee on it, but no "exhaust port". Check the flexible hose(s), if they begin to leak they may suddenly fail completely.
One flex hose goes to the air gauge.
An air leak is never good on this truck, brakes rely on air.
Thanks James! It wouldn't have happened if it hadn't been for you and the help from Charley Bell in Harrah, OK.
The image shows Charley (on the ground) and DJ when we suspended the rear axle and removed the rearmost drive shaft, which was frozen in the slip joint.
I want to add that Jason Curtis...
Rizzo, the flasher units are the same.
The housing is not grounded internally so you must make sure that the ground wire "C" is properly grounded. Use internal/external paint piercing washer(s) for this.
The newer flasher units are not very hardy and will fail quickly when overloaded. I added...
To get lights for this tow, I spliced two trailer cables together so that each end had a male connector. Then I plugged one end into the trailer connector on the deuce and the other on the xm757's trailer connector.
Didn't have brake lights for some reason, but everything else worked. Used the...
Another option is, if you are a penny pincher like me, make your own.
I got canvas of best quality from "OD Cloth" (see Jon's post above) for about $35/yard.
Using an awl, I stitched up the driver's seat bottom and back for a good finish. I used the old torn up covers for patterns.
Foam rubber...
Another little feature is a "low air" buzzer defeat button. :-)
The frame was designed for rigidity with tubular cross members to
allow the suspension to handle off-road irregularities without twisting the frame.
