Good thinking, and I have been contemplating a similar situation.
I work for a company in RI that designs Lottery equipment.
We purchased a company in Reno NV several years ago, that builds Gaming equipment and now builds some of our Lottery terminals.
Prior to Covid... I used to fly to Reno...
The trick I use for 80X machines in trucks is that I purchased 4 6' x 1" wide lift straps.
I loop 1 end through the D-rings then through the eye on the other end of the strap to cinch 1 end around the ring.
Then bring all 4 straps together and secure the 4 eyes to a shackle etc. then lift from...
Hey... my P.O.S F250 with 230K is an XL model and I have an 002 and 003 I intend to keep as my own.
I would not buy the Platinum pickup, nor the Cummins 1040 for the exact same reasons.
Both are nice when they are working correctly but in an emergency situation I want to be able to fix my...
Exactly! When the time comes you will prefer the noise over not having electricity!
I would tend to agree with the enclosure thought.
I have had 002's and 003's with the ASK enclosure and it does make a big difference, but it pretty much blocks access to everything.
Building a small enclosure...
Yes, The 2x AGM batteries is probably the route we are going to take. We still need 12V for the rest of the tractor's electrical and I have previously use 2 18/21AH batteries ( emergency lighting and jump pack batteries ) to power my 831 instead of the costly 24V battery that it requires and...
You've kind of got me thinking.... My truck is getting a bit tired ( 230K on an 08 F250 5.4L with cracked exhaust manifold and recent transmission shudder ) and I wouldn't feel comfortable driving cross country.
I also have an uncle in Oregon ( mother's brother ) who I haven't seen since I was...
Not a bad idea! I've never driven cross country ( and never will with my current truck ) ;) But it would be a memorable experience.
He has come with me on quite a few gen. recoveries but only as far away as Chambersburg PA. and FT Drum in NY.
This past weekend's project was spreading 60yds...
God, if it wasn't on the other side of the states I'd be interested too! I need another 005 to work on for fun!
As for price it is totally dependent on condition. It looks to be a nice machine from the outside but don't know about hours, running condition IP condition etc.
They sell at the...
Funny, the first thing I mentioned to my son was a 1 wire GM alternator...
After talking to a few folks it seems I may have to stay with the 24V system and find room for a couple small batteries.
I hear that the best route is to swap the flywheel bellhousing and starter to the civilian...
Thank you, he is definitely an exception from the norm for his age. He has built a go kart, resurrected 3 or more old riding mowers, he operates my backhoe.... often loading and unloading generators for me. Now he wants his JD 425 to be diesel powered for no practical reason other than the cool...
Hello Guys, I was wondering if anyone out there has repurposed an LPW2 from an 802A for a 12V application and if so, what did you use for a starter?
My 11 year old son took one of my spare motors and swapped it into his JD 425 tractor, because it was there..... I guess....
Due to a lack of room...
You might be able to get some parts from Ambac ( parts that are common to the M50 ) if they will still sell to you, and I have spare delivery valve springs etc. if you need one, but if you have a pitted or damaged plunger you will need to source another pump.
I have also made some delivery valve...
Once you get the starter issue corrected, we can get back to it.
If the IP is pumping fuel but not enough pressure, the spring may be causing an issue, not keeping the delivery valve closed long enough.
Other than that the only other pressure issue I have ever seen with those pumps is pitting on...
Unfortunately the PSU pump shown on that web site ( for $780 ) appears to be an exchange not really a rebuild.
I think you send them the PSU and you'll get an Ambac M50 for $780!
It's cheaper to just buy yourself an M50 outright, when they are available.
The #1 failure point of the PSU is a...
Before you do anything else to the pump, make sure your batteries are in good shape, it sounds like they may be wearing down as you are cranking.
Next, are you using the glow plugs? If so how long?
You might need them for 30 seconds min.
If that doesn't help we may need to verify the glow plugs...
