There are fusible links on each gen, they send the voltage to the lights. I had a loose connection of gen #1 and the link on gen #2 needed to be replaced. both of them now work fine

for the right light, there is a fusible link on the drivers side alternator that could be in need of replacement. as for the voltmeter, mine died and needed to be replaced. (it was acting funny before it finally died.)
you'll want to look at the condition of the u-joints in the front axle, if you can wiggle them with your hand then they are shot, a rebuild is around $700 near here. not that hard of a job to do yourself if you're mechanicaly inclined. also check for side to side play in the wheel bearings on...
If you don't care about keeping the truck absolutely original, you might consider just getting an external oil cooler and using the regular barbed fittings. Then when you have to change the radiator, It'll be cheaper.
